The battery hatch on my 272 style Sailfish is held up by one of those hatch springs that you bend to close (see photo). The problem is that I keep bumping it with my elbow and it comes down and hits me in the head...! This is a big hatch and the last time, the sharp edge of the hatch hit me square in the forehead and cut me a little. During the survey, it hit the surveyor three times - he was getting really annoyed  . I suspect it is worn out some and even more sensitive and susceptible to closing with the slightest bump.
How can I fix this...? Do newer boats use a different kind of hatch mechanism to hold up the hatches? Any suggestions will be appreciated...!
Thanks,
-Scott
