We launch our "new" Gulfstream 232 w/pulpit on Saturday and the dealer has recommended a Danforth anchor rather than a plow. It seems from many posts that anchoring on the Maine coast would be safer with a plow (Delta, CQR, etc.). Any thoughts? Should I go with the Danforth and use it as a secondary anchor if I later find a plow is necessary?

Thanks to all.

I carry both - the Delta on the roller and the fluke type (Fortress) stored away. Delta is good in almost everything. Fluke is for sand and mud and as backup.

Bigger is better and use lots of scope...

Dealer may be trying to save you or themselves some $$ as fluke is generally less expensive.

I've used a danforth with a good lenght of chain and and never had any troubles, even overnites. It doesn't matter it the anchor is dug in good or not, as long as your chain and line laids on the bottom to hold you there.
