You folks have alot more experience than I do. I look forward to your advice.

I was lucky enough to get a great deal on a 2006 228. I came with many options. One option is the additional fuel tank. The main tank is 96 gallons and the spare is 48 I believe.

My question is.... would you all use both tanks? I only fish a few times per month. I shoot for once per week but you know how that goes. I like to keep the main tank full to keep moisture out so I top it off when finished fishing. The station is on the way home anyway. I would like the benefit of having a second load of gas in the event the first tank's gas is bad but that's alot of gas for a guy who fishes a few times per month. What would you all do? The second tank is empty right now.

I appreciate your advice. Thanks...

I only use my aux tank when going offshore or fishing a 3 day tournament

That's a lot of fuel capacity for a single motor boat.

If you don't use much per trip, fuel will be staying in the tanks a long time, especially if you intend to keep the aux tank topped off too.

Depends how much fuel you use up each trip, and how the boat ride is effected by tank loading.

I would keep a few gallons of "slosh" fuel in the aux tank. Helps keep corrosion down and seals/hoses in better condition. Treat it with a deicer (unless you're afflicted with ethanol) and burn it off every few trips. Condensation isn't near the problem some make it out to be, and I wouldn't be too concerned with it.

We run off our main tank for local trips and only use the aux tank for longer hauls to montuak or offshore. No need to carry the extra weight?
