We just aquired an older (1987) Gulfstream, which we are in the process
of renovating. Have installed new fuel tank, and are about to mount a 2006 Yamaha 250 four stroke. We where told that Grady put out a memo or letter about installing a "splash plate" on the "Grady Drives" when installing a newer Yamaha engine.
Does anyone have any info, or picture of this so called splash plate and how it is mounted??
Thanks for the help

The splash plate is optional made of aluminum, there is a recess in the base of the drive with tapped holes to connect it. If you look under there you will notice the recess. I may have some literature of the dimension, I recall it being 3/16 inch thick.

I don't think the newer Yamahas need the plate, they are very well sealed.
Call Grady factory customer service and ask the question.

Engines on drives are exposed to taking hits from waves and the like particularly to the front of the engine where engines on transoms are better protected. With more electronics inside than ever, it made sense for the manufacturers to seal the cowlings better.
