My fishing buddy does not have the greatest mobility lately. The usual set up is he runs things at the helm and I handle the cockpit. Clearing things in the water after hookups can be challenging. We have been fishing two squid daisy chains from the inboard outrigger rings and use old Penn reels mounted in rod holders attached to the hardtop supports to deploy and reel in. I am just thinking about a gear motor mounted under the hard top with two large spools on the shaft. If you wind the line on in opposite directions on the spools both would be pulled in when retrieving. Some sort of free spool mechanism would have to be designed in to deploy. With an assortment of eyes and pulleys to route the lines. Just wondering if anyone would have an idea of the torque needed. Most smaller dc gear motors are rated in rpm and in/lbs. I am pretty sure I could do the fabrication if I new what my parameters would be.
