I had my brakes replced on my venture trailer and the shop owner gave me some story about rubber torsion trailer alxes not to be used in salt water????? I should buy a trailer with springs. I see tons of trailers with torsion axles in salt. Anyone heard of this? I find nothing online about this and
am going to look for something I can mail him to disprove this if I can.

Your guy clearly has no idea what he is talking about. Rubber components do better exposed to salt water than raw steel components do.

He just wants more business replacing your rusted springs. I'd find another trailer shop. I have had trailers with both and the torsion axles are much better in every regard.

There is a publication of Boat/US for those with the trailering coverage. They have a Q&A section with two guys that are trailer experts. They have discussed this issue before. You might find information there. Also there is a trailer and truck forum over on THT that should have more info.

I had a load rite prior to this one for my 18ft bayliner, it was clanky, noisy and I had replaced the rusted out springs twice over the 7years I owned it.

This trailer is a 1998, over 10 yrs old, got it used this yr, and the boat rides on it like a clould, no noise no banging. Smooth trailer.

Dont know where he gets his info , but he was telling me when I picked it up today I will be stranded on the road in the nearby future with a busted axle if I contunue to dunk in salt, and not to tell him he did not warn me.

Also told me that it is amlost imposible to get same day parts for torsions, not like springs that are available at almost any parts store.

So as a joke I had my friend call him looking for trailer springs for his S ea Lion and that his trailer was broken down off the NJ turn pike, Guess what he told him?

We have to order the springs, will be a day to get in  LOL

You can't beat the torsion axles for ride quality and durability and they require a lot less maintenance. Even in salt water. I wouldn't have anything else.
