Depends on the unit..I have both on my 33. A M260 in hull hooked to a NavNetx2 Furuno. Works great and no holes or mountiing issues. Works at speed.
I have transom mount for a Humminbird Side image. Works well also. Not as powerful as the Furuno but the wattage is differen. It works ok. I think it just depends on your application. I believe the transom mounts are less expensive.

I believe you were asking about the differences between "thru hull" versus transom mount.
As neither has hull to fire thru' I prefer them both, to in hull.
The Airmar site(who make most transducers for many manufacturers inc Furuno) as noted by Gilpri will give very good info. Also if you search thru threads here you will find lots of veiwpoints.
I am not familar with your hull but the principles are very similar for all hulls. Keep it away from any hull protrusions , strakes etc that may put turbulence over the face of the transducer. You want the cleanest deepest water for the face.
On a planing hull that has to be as close to the rear (if you want it to read at cruise speeds) as possible and not directly in front of or behind props. The depth of water you fish in will determine what power transducer you require and if it's less than 200ft I think a 600w transom transducer is all that is required and is the simplest to install.

If you call GW customer service they will give you the preferred location for the shoot thru transducer. I went through the same debate last spring on my 08 Tournament 225 and went with the transom mount. It was cheaper and more within the expertise of my dealer. I trailer my boat all the time and it has not been a problem. It also works fine @ speed. You will lose some effectiveness with a shoot thru because the signal has to penetrate the hull. That's not the case with a transom mount.
As for the thru hull, I see no good reason to cut a new hole in the hull of my boat. It has to cause some problems later on, especially if the trailer bunks cover the transducer.
