transom gate modification ..has anyone done ??

I have an 86 240offshore with an open transom. There is a gate that hinges on the floor... has anyone modified this area of the boat to make it more fishable. Making it higher or adding a bait station or anything to make it like the newer transoms.?

I have added gaskets to the edges of the door for a better seal. Also, used a shock cord to hold the door closed better than the "friction pegs."

I plan on replacing the hinged door with a slide in hatch board like sailboats use for the companionway. This will provide much more security.
