transom - is this structural?

hi all.

so I'm getting ready for my transom rebuild on my 93 sailfish 252gt. The coosa board and roll of 1708 arrives from the states next week after almost 2 months waiting.

is this cross member on the transom structural? do I need to build a new one into the new transom when I redo it? it does not tie into the hull on either side, stops about 3 inches short.

I can't imagine why it would be there if it weren't structural. Looks like a stiffener. In redoing the transom, are you doing that from inside or outside? Either way, you will probably find out.

Yes, it provides additional rigidity to the transom as @seasick says. Much like the same way a piece of 1 x 2 will strengthen a shelf when fastened at a 90 degree angle. If anything, I would suggest adding another one to give the transom even more strength.

Yes, that is VERY much structural. It gives lateral support and prevents the transom from bowing. It does not need to go all the way to the hull side to work as intended.

redoing from the inside. the interior transom glass has cracked and delaminated on the upper port side.

going to cut the cap and pull it off since it has cracks on the stern section. that should give us enough access to redo everything from the inside.

I'm also going to relocate the batteries to the v berth to shift some weight forward.
