Have had a 2024 GW Freedom 235 for a year with a Jabsco electric head. Just now starting to have folks use the head. Have ready access to a pump out station and often offshore 3+ miles.

Just curious, is there any recommended regular treatment to run down the toilet toward managing odors and keeping the Holdimg Tank in a good condition

Any other Head / Holding Tank Best Practices Thoughts / Recommendations would be appreciated

Hi,

I believe I have the same setup as you.
  1. I put the head treatment in (via the pump out fitting) after every purging of the holding tank. I also run a bit through the head itself.
  2. I will also do fill (via salt water washdown) and empty once in a while, when I am out 5+ miles.
  3. I have had the replace the joker valve a few time.
  4. I have learned that letting the Tp sock a before flushing helps the macerator pump to grind uo the TP. As we all know, TP (especially marine TP) really falls aparts when wet.
  5. I try not to put too much TP in at once.
I have a good instruction sheet (laminated, of course) posted above head for guests. If you PM an email address, I can email it to you (not laminated...lol).

After what seemed like an exhaustive internet search and numerous YouTube viewings…..

Our MANDATORY Head Use Instructions are NOTHING IN THE HEAD / TOILET BUT PEE OR POOP

We have Baby Diaper Bags in the Head to for folks to bag up their used toilet paper in, and THEN to be tied off after placement of such used materials, similar to Dog Poop Bags, along with a trashcan in the Head for such tied off bags

Blue Marine/RV toilet treatment. plenty of brands out there. I flush it in the head.
Empty tank As Soon As Practical after someone has used it.
Fill & flush once in a while.

DO NOT use regular toilet paper. Get RV/Marine toilet paper.

DO NOT let anyone use "Flushable wipes". They are NOT...

Get these stickers on Amazon. One on the toilet lid, one on the bulkhead so they have to see it.

All good advice. Treat head in spring, also every pump and then in the fall for storage w/ the right antifreeze.

Fortunately, Winterizing is NOT a “Known Need” in West Central Florida

:-)

However, leaving BOTH the Fresh Water and Holding / Black Water Tanks “treated” for Florida’s extreme summer heat if away, is a Need

Like everyone else said. Always use holding tank treatment. Lots of options for this. Whenever I do a pump out. I will usually do a freshwater flush then pump it out. My current boat has a freshwater head which makes a big difference in keeping it “fresh” compared to a saltwater head on my previous boat.
