Here is a pick of my trim at level according to guage and another look at the eninge in the guages level position. When I am going over chop I can hear the lower unit come out of the water, Does this look normal to anyone?

that trim is off....level means level...that lower end should be down a bit more...it mat be OK when trying to get on plane, but should be trimmed level when at speed.

Why don't you just adjust the sender so it's registering correctly??

Your gauge, as shown in the picture, is not telling you that you are in a "level" running position. The gauge is telling you that you have trimmed the engine "up" about one-half of its trim range (more or less). Your engine appears to be in that position, so all is good. Normal running trim position varies from boat to boat and its load, but for me, normal running requires that the motors be trimmed all the way down, so that your gauge is all the way down as well. That should solve your cavitation problem.

To add to what the others have suggested, most boats like yours get up on plane best with the engine trimmed all the way down. Once on plane you can trim the engine up to increase speed and steering ease (and to save fuel). As you suggested, if you trim the engine up too much the prop will cavitate (suck air to simplify). Keep in mind that engine trim angle is not the only factor that causes a propeller to cavitate. Other factors are size and condition of prop, how many blades, material, etc.

I would guess that the way the engine is postiioned in your photo, that would be about the highest you could run it when the seas are flat calm and the boat was loaded just right. I agree with Pez that the gauge looks about right for the way the engine is trimmed in the photo.

I have to agree with the last two posts...once I'm on plane this is the general level I would run, not when its trimmed all the way down.
