tabs

Trim Tabs are worth their weight in gold. I have a 228G w/ Bennett M120 Sport Tabs and they are awesome. They make boating much smoother in bumpy seas. Put the tabs down in a head sea and you plow through the waves VS. rolling up and over. They will greatly reduce bow rise when getting up on plane, they will level the boat when running with an uneven load. Basically you can change the running angle of the boat getting more boat out of the water reducing wetted surfaces and drag increasing fuel efficiency.
Go to the Bennett website and watch the video-it's pretty cool

Well, not really. Those things can happen with tabs up by using the motor trim. But with the tabs going down, drag is increased and the bow will lower, thus increasing wetted surface and decreasing fuel economy... :?

fgunner, you're splitting hairs. I agree that engine trim will increase bow rise but trim tabs do change the running angle of the boat. You're either reading into some friendly advice too much or your trying to crap on me.

fgunner, I'm sorry the way I snapped in my last post. It's been a long day.

.. but trim tabs do change the running angle of the boat.

I assume you're speaking to me since fgunner only asked a question. Not splitting hairs or slinging crap, only speaking of the physics involved. Yes, tabs do change running angle. When retracted they obviously do nothing. But when they extend the running angle goes moves bow down, wetted surface expands (side spray moves forward), drag increases, and any fuel mileage changes will be negative. Any reversal of those attributes will only occur when tabs are retracted from an already extended position with the above degradations already in effect. At least that's the way my boat acts with Bennetts. My fuel economy is best with the motor trimmed out just short of the porpoise point and the tabs retracted. The only tab movement possible is extension, with the aforementioned characteristics. :?

So to answer your question, fgunner, tabs on a 225 aren't required, but they will allow you to easily level the boat when running, and will smooth out a choppy ride to a certain extent. I bit the bullet (EBay is a wonderful place) last year and don't know why I waited so long ... [/i]

Curmudgeon, you are absolutely correct. The entire purpose of tabs IS to create drag. I oversimplified my answer. Please accept my apologies.
