I am almost finished with the water pump on the 150 HPDI but I can not get the nylon bushing and the steel collar to compress onto the shaft. I have tried putting them together above on the narrowed area of the shaft but can not push it down onto the larger diameter part. I have tried to assemble them in place down against the pump housing and can not get the steel collar to go over the nylon. Has anybody done this lately and how did you complete this? My manual does not show this step. Thanks

I did two Yamaha impellers last year. They are the only two I have ever done on a Yamaha outboard. One was on my '03 F225 and the other was on my Brother's '02 F115. They both had a plastic sleeve (with a split gap on the one side) with a metal collar that went down over the sleeve. The only way you could get that collar over the sleeve was to put the plastic sleeve exactly in the location where the shaft is tapered, then put the collar over the sleeve while the sleeve was in that location.

Duhhh, the washers go underneath the plastic housing on the narrow part of the shaft. Boy, do I feel dumb now.
