That doesn't sound to far off, they did a lot of work, what years are the motors? If you want to save money, theres a lot of what they did, that you could do yourself. But if your happy with there work and got the money,it easyer that way. But I don't have the money, so I do what I have to so I can get my boat in the water each year, and I really like working on my motors, I'd learned a lot by doing.

They are 2004 motors with 800 hrs. I can do most of the work but won't have the time in March to do the maintenance. Thanks for the reply.

It depends on what has been done before. I am one of those who doesn't replace a lot of things just because people think you should. Unless my thermostats are acting up, I just test them and leave them. If my motors are peeing water strongly, I don"t routiney replace impellers. I will take a look at my VST every few seasons but usually the filter is OK and usable.
Same for the under cowel fuel filter. I check it, flush it and resuse.
I do regularly replace plugs and water separator filters as well as lower case oil. I grease fittings, check trim pump fluid, throttle adjustment and linkage and all lines for wear and deterioration. For me, I average $200 or so for motor maintenance including paint. I like doing the work and would rater spend the $1800 on new toys.

Price sounds about right. I typically do about half of that work myself and have just the stuff I cannot do done, saved me money, no need to have them waste their time with zinc's and filter's, all stuff you can do in no time yourself with simple tools, anyone can do them easily. Leave the "real" tune up work to them though. I believe my dealer charges $650 per tune per engine for four stroke, and then any additional work is at their hourly rate plus any parts and haul. Seems right on with the price if you ask me, could have been done for far less if you did some work yourself, but you surely were not ripped off price wise for the work done.

It's funny that $2000 for a tune up seems reasonable. If it were my truck and the dealer charged $2,000 for a tune up, I would have a heart attack:)

RE: Tune Up.

Hey guys, thanks very much for your feed back. I will do some of the easy stuff and leave the pumps and fuel filters for the mechanic. My laptop broke and had to shell out 800$ for a new one. I hope to save at least that much doing some of the maintenance.
