I purchased this boat last year and have been slowly fixing it up. It looks like the windlass on this boat is not original to the boat and was added by somebody.

Question - did this boat originally have an anchor locker, and if so, was there a flip open cover for it. My boat looks like someone deleted the anchor door and installed some other things. Also, the wiring to the windless was clearly not installed at the factory as it is dangling inside the cabin with holes drilled from behind the helm area and near the cabin side bow compartment where the extra rope accumulates.

If this is a hack job some clown did, does anyone have a photo of their original bow locker on the topside so I can see what it is supposed to look like?

FYI - I do not have a bow pulpit on this model just the standard wrap around bow rail.

Please see the photo I attached.

Based on the drainage holes it's safe to say that yes, the boat originally had an anchor locker. But just becasue someone added the windlass themselves, I don't know that that would clasify as a "hack job", though. Maybe it could have been done better? But don't assume that GW does a "neat" job of wiring, either... it hasn't really been their strong suit over the years! :)

At this point, though, if it works and is solidly reinforced... clean up the wiring and go boating.

If you want to make it look better - sure, go ahead. But make it look better to suit YOUR specs - don't worry what GW would have done - although you can certainly look at their website for ideas... and also just googling. Truthfully, it really doesn't look that bad, at all.
