This is a project in progress. The front tank started leaking (odors) and I simply stopped using it after it was empty. Then the odors popped back up with the main tank.
Time to do something. I looked here. There were a few suggestions and examples. Here is where I am:
1. Call Grady White. Their customer service people are amazing. 252-830-8603 Carolyn is super helpful. She'll give you the drawings for the tanks (attached) specific to your model.
2. Get in touch with your local dealer. These are all custom made - so they may have a local resource to have the tanks fabbed up. My local dealer had some made (or their customer did) out a shop near Lake Havasu in Az. They were super cool about handing out the name: KSH Fuel Products. www.kshmarine.com. I received a quote at the standard 1/8" stock (factory design) and another one at 3/16" stock. The extra $350 for 50% greater thickness was an no-brainer for me. Maecy was a great resource with regular communication. If you have updated sending units - let them know. Otherwise they'll search for the crappy orignal setup from Grady. I already put in Wema (now KUS) sending units in the last 5 years (recommended). They'll just drill and tap the hole for the relocation of existing. Buy new fastners and a new neoprene gasket. They are all the same bolt pattern (asymetric..only lines up one way.)
3. Coating: this may be over the top... The original tanks lasted 25 years. I'm 55...do they have to last 50 more years? probably not. But they will. The general consensus was to use Rust-Oleum Coal Tar Epoxy C9578. It's a two part epoxy that includes refined coal tar pitch which forms an extremely durable coating... It has to be warmer than 50° to cure though. I applied the coating with a roller. It's thick.
That's how far I am as of 01/27/25.
