I have a 1992 226, with 200 Johnson… In addition, we still have our 1988 Boston Whaler, 17 Montauk… it’s up for sale

My wife and I want a real weekender … Shore power, shower, sink, the whole bit and still have a Grady...

I read in one of these forms that there really isn’t much difference between the 27 and 28 in regards to below deck space… How about the 25’s can anyone shed some light on the different models...

We have an Islander 270. It was the longest 8.5-foot beam boat made by GW. The Sailfish is only a foot longer, but is a foot wider as well. That translates to a lot more room on the boat. Below decks the Sailfish has a mid-berth, and the Islander does not.

You don't want to weekend on a 25 footer. Not really. The cuddy is more for storage and a place to hit the head in an emergency. 27' or bigger is the way to go. The Express 305 is the answer to all your needs if you can swing the coin to buy one.

Sailfish

If I am understanding then the 272 Sailfish has the extra small berth
Were there hull design changes in specific years? should I look for a 1992 up

There's really no major changes to the cabin of the Sailfish from 1990 until 2008 (I think that was the last year it was produced). So, weekending on a 25 will be the same as weekending on a 27 which will be the same as weekending on a 28. They all have the aft berth.

My '93 Sailfish will be on the market later this year or early next. Let me know if you want some more info.

Depending on how big (tall) you are the Sailfish is the smallest you want to go. I'm 6' and it's tolerable by myself, with the wife I'd be kicked to the deck (popping a tent on the deck is probably easier than the cabin). Also if it's somewhat hot you will need AC. If you can swing it go with a Marlin or larger.

The newer sailfish have more creature comforts but the same space.

I agree with Grog. Like I said, if you can swing it, buy a used Express 305. You will be there sooner or later anyway so why not take the leap of faith now.

What defines a weekender? I know a couple who stayed evey weekend in a 20 ft overnighter, with dog, for several years.

You'd better let her decide if you know what's good for you -
go to local Grady dealer they sell brokered boats if you are interested in used, and start at the 23 ft Gulfstream and see every model larger, then let her decide.

Nothing else matters when teh Admiral is involved. Bite the bullet and admit it.

You will never have peace if you don't let the Admiral decide.
