I am currently to take the decision about what electric/trolling motor to install on my 2011 306 Canyon.
As i have all Garmin electronics the choice for the Kraken is logic, but would have two caveats:
a) longest shaft is 90"
b) thrust is "only 100 lbs
Installer who already started to plan installation for the ex owner would build the bracket and the installation, but he suggest me a Minn Kota Riptide Instinct QUEST as it has a 100" shaft and 115lbs of thrust if 36V battery is used.
Not sure if the 15 lbs of thrust is noticeable, but 10" more shaft length by MK is probably better than the 90" of the Garmin.

I don't boat with more than 2 ft of waves as here we get really steep 3-5 sec chop what makes fishing very uncomfortable.
90% of use would be SpotLock function for very deep deep dropping, slow pitch jigging and drift fishing using life bait for amberjack and tuna i mostly do, but some hours 0.5 knot slow trolling is not excluded.

According to THT, there are several MK owners complaining about:
Auto-Deploy breaking
Shaft snapping
I know from my own experience that Garmin has a very good support, but not sure about MK and last what i want is having trouble with a TM who cost 2.5K more than the Kraken.

Anyone here with a 306 Bimini/Canyon who has a trolling motor and has suggestions, particularly about shaft length and trust?
  • Will the 90" shaft be enough long
IS 100 lbs enough for the 306 Canyon and in case of first hand experience,
is there a considerable difference between 100 and 115 lbs of trust?
