Where to start looking for used Seafarer 228 ?

Looking for a late model 228..(I think )
Md location.. Not much luck asking local dealers.. Internet search seems to not come up with much locally
 
It all depends on the market. Might just be that there aren't many for sale local to you. Expand your internet search and be ready to travel for the right one.

It took me almost 2 years to find the "right one". (had a boat and didn't want to be a 2 boat owner, bye-bye-BW hello GW). You are right that the 228g is harder to find. When I peruse the local fishing magazine listings there may be 1 or 2 228's vs other Grady multiple listings (in the NE anyway). In my opinion, it is a rather desireable boat for it's size and functuality.
Be patient, you'll find your "right one".
 
There are a many many resources to find used boats in general and specifically a Seafarer. GW and Plymouth are right, it may take a little effort to find the “right” one, but they are out there and or will come onto the market. What will be key for you, is to recognize what represents a good listing when it becomes available and be ready to react.

Presuming you’re in MD, I’d continue to check The Hull Truth, Tidalfish, UsedBoats.com, The Capital, The Easton newspaper, Craig’s List, EBay, other used boat web sites, the GW dealer in Deale & DE and this site. I also wouldn’t be averse to traveling within the mid-Atlantic to go get one if an initial investigation looked promising. If you want one, and the owner wants his listing to be found, you can find them.
 
rorkin, 228's are tough to find as almost no one gets rid of them unless they are moving up. It took me almost two years to find mine. And I had to fly from Tampa to Katy, Texas just to look at it (ended up buying it on the spot and trailering it 23 hours home behind a Budget Rental truck). Expand your search area and you might have better luck.
 
That one on craigslist looks like a pretty good deal.. How much would it cost to add a hard top with enclosure?
 
I really don't know what it would cost to add the hard top and enclosures
anyone have any ideas. ?? Also it is a yamaha 200 2 stroke..
2002.. Anyone know the engine ??

I just checked. For a Grady hardtop from a Grady dealer, about $10,000 installed w rod holders, lights, etc. Price includes full enclosure, but it has to be locally made. Grady won't sell after-market enclosure. They say that if they're not fitting it, then they're not sure I would be happy with it.

Expect a local fabricator to be $2,000 to $3,000 less for a Sunbrella top on an aluminum frame with similar rod holders and lights.

I was all set to add the factory hard top until my marina said it would add $150 to my monthly rack storage cost. They said this as they were changing the gas pump price to $5.17 per gallon ...

Look closely at the trim motor for corrosion. Trim motor corrosion is a common ailment on a boat of this vintage. This is not easy to correct because the backside of the trim motor is against the right angle corner of the engine mount thus requiring removal of the engine to get at the trim motor for maintenance or replacement. Also the transom of a bracket mounted engine is likely to be damp for a boat of this vintage. Not a deal breaker but an issue to wary of. I notice that the Gill Bracket does not have the standard break in the bottom paint between the hull and bracket which is helpful to check galvanic action on the aluminum bracket. Another item to check out. The electronics will in all likelihood need replacement or upgrading real soon. Boat looks nice but caveat emptor.
