Windscreen Frame Painting

Hey guys;

I would like to re-paint my windscreen aluminum frames since the original paint is flaking and bubbling on my 1990 Marlin. I contacted Waterbonnet the manufacturer for advice and a recommended color match for the factory gray color but received zero help. Can anyone offer advice and suggestions.

Mine is really bad and poorly touched up by the previous owner. I spoke to a guy that does boat work on the side to get his advice. He suggested powder coating if the bubbing could be smoothed without any filler. The filler will prevent the powder coat from attaching since it uses a static charge. Otherwise a two part epoxy paint system is the next best choice. jh

Disassembling a windshield frame is an undertaking NOT to be taken lightly. "Simple" can become a nightmare very quickly ... :?

So true I got about 6 pieces of plastic trim removed before I realized it won't be a "this" season project. jh

Mask it off and shoot it with automotive urethane enamel with a cross-linker. Visit your local autopaints jobber, they'll have all the color chips to choose from.

Epoxy will work, it's just a lot harder to work with.
