I am curious if anyone has bought an after market cover for their boat. I'm getting ready to put the boat away and thought about getting a cover instead of shrink wrapping year after year. I have a 257 advance. Anyone have any ideas, experiences?

I cover my 265 express every winter - just did it yesterday -
A $41 tarp 30' x 40'
Four pieces of 2"x3"
I build a frame in the back and in the front with the wood - tie the tarp down nice and tight
I use dock lines to hold the wood in place -
I throw it out ever spring - less than $60!

After having the boat wrapped last year, I untied the belly bands, loosened the wrap around the engine and worked my way forward loosening the wrap. then went around to the front and pulled it off. Rolled it up and put it under the deck with the frame (which was from the previous time I had the boat wrapped.)
I get more than one year out of shrink wrap. May sound frugal but I don't contribute a collassal ball of plastic to my local landfill every year.
Even when it's time for new wrap, I use the existing frame. My buddie charges me just to wrap it. The frame is up when he gets here. Even if you go with a custom cover, you're still going to need a frame/support.
If you want to go with a cover, maybe have it made with a frame in place? If it's a waterproof cover, don't forget the water will pool in the low points.

Hey Tim, I replied to a post you had early today on anther site in CT. Gonna be a long winter, huh? Today was just a plain old crappy day. :roll:
I was thinking of tarping it as well but I saw an ad in the back of saltwater sportsman for ttopcanvas. went to their website and looks like something that might do the job. it looks fairly simple to put up but not sure what they cost. I plan on giving them a call tomorrow. I thought about shrinking it and saving it but if i can get a relatively priced canvas i might go with that. I've also got an upholstry guy that did some work for me last year that I plan on giving a call.

How far down the sides does that 30' x 40' tarp cover? I am going to be picking one of similar size up for my 252. Do you think the 40' length would be enough to full cover from the bow pulpit to the end of the bracket (no engines on there now to cover up)?

It covers the 265 w/ radar just enough to cover the sides down to the gunnels - once a little further back it then covers down more -
I would say that your gunnels are covered and then another few inches -
