Don't know if folks are interested, but here goes.
- My radar mount has a 90 degree drop so the GPS and light turn 90 degrees so they are below the dome. If you shrink your boat, do this (if you have) to relieve stress on the light/gps antenna.
- Pop out the outrigger poles, collapse and store in the gunnel rod holders.
- Drop my VHF antenna and put a pool noodle with a hole down the middle over it. it protects the antenna from slapping the hardtop during storage when they wrap it.
- Put 2 damp rids in the two sinks. My dealer puts the mold/mildew strips and disinfectants in the head, cabin and cockpit prior to wrapping. Keeps mold at a minimum.
- Remove the entire enclosure and all interior and exterior cushions. I store in a dry place. The enclosure is washed and then cleaned and polished over the winter. Original lasted 13 years and still looked good. Stitching started to go so I replaced this year.
- Pull all the drawers and things in the storage areas. I go through everything during winter and ready for spring. Same with ditch bags and safety gear.
- Pull the PFDs, inspect, wash and demold if needed. Store with the other stuff.
- All fishing gear comes home and during winter is gone through and made ready for spring.
- Remove radio. Reconnections in the spring eliminate intermittent connections and performance. Leave flush mounted displays.
- Tie off the anchor and let the tension off the windlass.
- Clean out fridge and if I remember, wedge with foam so the door stays open (no mold).
I leave:
- Hull wash to the dealer. They acid wash the bottom to clean and remove any growth. A quick sand and if I need to bottom paint in spring (every 3 years or so), it is ready to go.
- Batteries on the boat. Just disconnect and charge in the spring. Never an issue.
- Winterization and motor maintenance to dealer. My dealer only sells GWs. They pretty much know Yamahas and GWs inside out.
- GWs are easy to wrap, run a line from hard top to bow and from hard top rod holders to aft (horizontal between the stern eyes and end tied to middle).
Rest until spring!
