Yamaha CL7 is a Garmin 7607 (I believe)

[Edit] So for people who don't know what I'm talking about (my initial message left out the context), newer Yamaha engines can have old style mechanical controls and analogue info coming back from the engine, or, they are all digital. The throttle doesn't move a cable, it sends a digital signal to the engine and the engine moves the throttle electronically. Similarly for all the info like RPM, temp, etc, that all comes back in a set of digital packets. So no analogue gauges. Instead there is a 7 inch Garmin with a yamaha app on it displaying all that.

It's a stroke of brilliance from Yamaha because it's a fully functioning Garmin, you swipe the Yamaha app and you are at the Garmin home screen. I've been using it as my chart plotter and the big screen as a fish finder. The Garmins are aware of the digital stuff coming back from the engine so they display that using a 3/4" wide column on the starboard side of the screen. Very cool.

Whatever it is, it connects to both NMEA 2000 and ethernet. When you get your electronics, have them network that display in as well. My dealer is doing that to my boat right now.

I may be reaching out to you to see how yours is set-up. I have the CL7 on my new 208 with my DEC F200 and plan on using it the same way. I didn't think to ask the dealer to wire it that way, but it may already be good to go. We'll see in a week...

The way it comes, it is good for a chart plotter. It won't see your transducer or radar, needs to be networked for that.

I didn't ask the dealer to do it, I went to where I bought my electronics.

Yeah my main chartplotter is the Garmin 942 xs plus. It should be able to network well to the CL7 and other devices. I was planning on running my chartplotter for charts and the CL7 as the depth/ fish finder. I wasn't sure digging through the owners manual of the CL7 (came with the grady-white app), it is pretty extensive what the CL7 can do, just may take some work to get it set-up the way I want. I like the idea of having the engine specs just on a bar to the side. I don't need an entire 7 inch screen telling me my RPM's, speed, and fuel burn.

That 942xs is my backup larger screen, I have it mounted in the port side overhead cubby. I've got a 8610xsv for my main screen. I use the 8610 mostly as a fish finder and the CL7 as my chart plotter. Except in fog, then I use the 8610 as charts overlayed with radar.

The CL7 works fine as a chart plotter, I mostly know where I want to go.

I can't remember if the CL7 in chart mode has the column of info or not, I'm pretty sure the 8610 saw it. I had to add some dongle that read the engine info off the wires and connect that to the 8610.

It's all 10x or 100x the tech I actually need, I kinda overbought but it's a new GW 228, felt like it wanted some nice stuff. In for a penny....

It does remind me of something I saw in a signature "Once you buy a boat, everything else seems really reasonable". So true, I've got a buddy with a fairly nice plane. I could buy 3 of those for what I've got tied up in my boat. Shrug. I like to fish.942.jpgdash.jpg

I have the Garmin 942xsPlus and my Fusion Apollo stereo networked with the CL7 as well. When your smartphone is connected to the Fusion via Bluetooth, notifications from your phone will show up on your 942xsPlus as

Got my boat a few days ago and had a marine Ethernet cable ready to go in case my CL7 and 942xs+ weren’t already linked. Sure enough they were not, I installed the wire, powered them up, and boom: my CL7 now can do everything my main chart plotter can. No crazy setup required, just plug the wire in and everything links up automatically. Easy way to upgrade that CL7, I appreciate others making me aware this was something to do.

The 942xs+ also links to my phone and shows notifications and that is without any fusion stereo. I use portable bluetooths for my tunes. I’m very happy with what the 942 can do at it’s price point.

Yeah, my Iphone 11 lets me.

I may be crazy but I use a massive blue tooth speaker the new ”Soundboks”. It actually fits perfectly into the space in front of the head and is LOUD if needed.
