Hello!
I feel less than smart saying this but as the thread title says I cant figure out how to increase the RPMs while in neutral.
Is it not possible with these new Yamaha engines?
In the past I liked to bump the engine speed a little bit to get the water pump going and warm the engine alittle at about 1000-1100 rpms.
Any advice will be appreciated.
THANKS

Got some pictures of it? The Merc version has a little button on the stalk that says "Throttle Only" and then it beeps to let you know it's activated. Nothng like that on yours?

Didn't a user manual come with it - or some type of instruction from the place you bought it?

Thanks Dennis. No buttons on the stalk. I bought the boat and motor privately and the fellow I got it from has no clue about it either. The Yamaha manual makes no mention of this. It runs fine. It just bugs me that I cant figure it out. I have had many Yamaha engines in the past and this is a first. Googling the question comes up with zilch.

With no experience with Yamaha digital controls, I can't really offer much direct help. If there are no buttons (inside or outside of the stalk) and no buttons on the base and the center of the stalk (pivot point) doesn't depress, I'm out of ideas! I'd still like to see a pic, though - even if you can just google for your setup and provide a link/pic that way. I googled for it, but the owner's manual I found clearly showed a button for 'neutral only' - so it must have been a different digital control than you have.

Or... give your local Yamaha dealer a call?

Phil, there should be a soft rubber ring on the starboard side of the control, near the base of the control arm. Press that in (like a button under the rubber cover) then engage the control. Unless yours is brand new and they have made some significant changes? Just a feeble thought. trapper

Mine has the soft rubber button on the port side of the control but I have digital controls. Yours will have something that will enable you to rev the engine in neutral.
If you still van't find it google Yamaha operators manual if you don't have one.
