Dock ropes rubbed away lower unit paint on my '06 Yamaha 250s and I would like to touch it up. My dealer indicated that it was difficult to get a good match. Does Yamaha make a spray touch up paint for the lower unit? If yes, where can one buy it?

many thanks!

I got Yamaha color matched paint at the local Yamaha dealer. It was like $25 for a spray can!

Color match was OK but you can see the difference in the texture of the paint. Fortunatly my re-paint job job was the skeg on the lower unit.

It depends on the year. My 2000 Yami is a different color than the latest modes and the earlier models. I don't know the year range for that color but Yamaha doesn't sell it anymore nor was I able to fine any of the other off the shelf airesoles that were a match. I ended up painting the bracket and the lower unit below the cavitation plate a lighter different color.
A collision shop could get close in matching but that would be expensive. What year is your motor?

You can purchase color matching paint from any good Yamaha dealer that is no problem, just make sure you get the correct year range. The problem you have is that you cannot just paint the spot that is worn off if you want to blend the paint in. Plus if the lines wore the paint down to bare metal then you will need to prime before you paint.

What do you want the end result to look like? If you want it to be undetectable go to a professional and have them do the work. If you do not want to spend the couple of hundred bucks (absolute maximum) it will cost to have it done correctly then find someone that knows what they are doing to advise you on how and where to blend back to. You will also need to understand how to prepare the surfaces before priming and painting including wet sand between coats and applying clear coat once you have painted.

I have painted the lower unit on my last boat several times to a near perfect match. It is not hard to do but takes time and patience to do it right.
