I know there have been some discussions about the use of RF in Yami engines. However what are the equivalent products? I remember someone talking about Pri-G, and possibly the product from Chevron (Techron??)? Any problems running after-market additives instead of the Yamaha RF? Engine is a 1998 Saltwater Series 225. Thank you in advance. JF

Hot Ajax,
I always ran Mercury Quick Kleen (their spelling not mine) in my 2002 200HP Optimax. It was not very expensive and one ounce treated 5 or 6 gallons of gas. I had the motor for 6 years and it was running strong when I sold it but it only had 145 hours on it. I have no idea whether it did any good or not but it wasn't very expensive and it did no harm.

Decarb your motor on a routine basis and use Ring Free or Sea Foam regularly in your gas. Art

Ringfree from any of the major manufacturers (Yamaha, Evinrude, Merc) should be OK. They all perform the same function, just run one of them.

My Yamaha mechanic off the record said Ringfree is Techron, if that helps you. I don't know if same concentration though so I don't use ot in the boat. I can get Techron on sale for the car.

Relabeling not so unusual in the industry.

The Purolator Plus oil filter cartridge for my car engine is identical and has the exact same part marking numbers as the Fram. The Fram is $10- 11, I get the Purolators for 4 bucks, or 1 - 2 bucks each on sale and with a mail in rebate at the boys from Pep. Exact same filter, different box labeling.

ringfree is made by chevron
look at the back of the bottle, u can make the stuff just like seafoam

chevron gas is the best hands down because of their additives

seafoam is cheaper and is a stabilizer
