Thanks guys.
Sheared off the water intake port on port engine. 2007 Marlin w twin F250, 800 hours, good maintenance, been running great.
This has to be a one in a million accident.....
Running home in normal PNW cloudy gray day in 15mph wind with a little chop. I hit a small log, maybe 3-4" in diameter and about 2-3' long. Must have been in the lee of a wave coming at me, and waterlogged gray like all our PNW twigs are. It hit the port leg and snapped in half, the half in between the engines flew up and sheared off my water intake port.
????
At least that's what I think the only answer is.... one minute I'm running along fine, I hear a bump, I look into the wake and don't see anything, then I get an alarm and shut down on Port. I think it's maybe a plastic bag? I hope it's not something in the engine.
So of course I come off plane without port humming, I idle starboard, and I trim up port to take a looksee at the prop and the leg. When it comes up I walk back and there's this log bobbing around in between the motors with a fresh cut split. This log is about 18" long, has a jagged fresh edge you can see compared to the slimy gray of the rest of the log. "Huh"
Prop looks pristine, no plastic bag. I figure maybe the impact somehow shocked the power transfer somehow and caused the alarm. So I go put it back down to start up and it won't start. Oil pressure fine. No heat or smoke. Alarm. So I go back again and just happened to notice the water intake that sits below the cowling, where the hoses come out of the cowling and attach to this hose intake bracket, the hoses are hanging free, and the threaded female is sheared off and still stuck to the male.
I know it sounds crazy, but this is the only thing I can assume. Hit a log, as it split it flew up and shattered this bracket/intake or whatever you call it.
Here's pictures. And any input you have is always appreciated. Randy
