I’m on the hunt for a used 205 Tournament and all that I’m finding for sale are powered with a 150 Yamaha. Maybe that’s why they are still for sale in the middle of the summer? I don’t want to buy an underpowered boat that I’ll have trouble selling one day. I currently have a Scout 222 Abaco with a 200hp Yamaha which provides plenty of power, but the 205 Tournament is 400 lbs heavier - thus my concern. I’m sure trim tabs are a necessity.

According to the 1986 brochure my 190 Tournament weighs 2075 lbs. I have a 2 stroke 150 and it's more than adequate. I was able to hold 34.6 knots in calm water with little trouble. I did not try towing water toys but I'm sure it would be fine.

With that said the 4-stroke motors are a lot heavier and that needs to be considered. Along with I'm not sure how much heavier your hull is.

A 205 Tournament with a 150 hp weighs in at 3285 lbs. When you load 4 adults into the boat, fuel and gear, you’re looking at 4000 lbs+. Just seems like a lot of weight for a 150.

I can't speak for the 150 hp on a Tournament 205. But I have a Tournament 205 with a 200 hp engine and it seems like a perfect fit. I have had five adults, some kids, and full gear, and the boat has no problem quickly getting on a plane. Good luck on your search!

150hp is fine for that boat. i have a 204 overnighter with hardtop with a 150 2 stroke yamaha and it does great. not very fast but i can get up on plane at about 17kts and get up to about 34kts top speed.

maybe a 175 or 200 would be better but im not gonna go any faster than 30 anyways. these arent built for speed.

I have an 86 204 overnighter with a 1998 150 mercury 2 stroke and I have had 6 adults and my son on the boat and I got up on plane no problem. But like previously stated you won't set the water on fire. With all that weight i was pushing 29 knots on my GPS at full throttle and cruising at 21 knots with no problem. On a regular day with myself and 2 guys fishing I can push 33 knots on a calm day. So I think you would be fine with a 150.

I have a 2009 205 with a F-250, personally I wouldn't want anything smaller. Perfect match! It took me a while to find this combo too. I believe they put a 150 on is to keep the cost down
