I can't tell you what that's for but I have the same thing on my 2006 Marlin....I'll be watching this thread in hopes of finding out!

could it be for the arm for the fold down table if you want to take it out? i have been wondering the same thing since i got mine.

Dr Kleen has it right... that's for the table pedistal. Keeps it from rolling around.

The table top itself lays in the forward berth compartment. It lays on a recessed lip when you lift off the compartment hatch so you can still have storage under it.

Interesting, Mine is lashed to the wall just aft of the head door. It is definitly a stock grady design. I sort of like where it is, but hidden would be better. jh

How is the pedestal removed from the base, does it unscrew?

Just pull it out. It is tapered for a tight fit. The straps on the sbrd side indeed hold the pedistal. When it is removed you have a nice seating area without obstruction. Mine has been removed since day one.
