I'm looking at a 2006 330 that has everything I want except it only has the 225's. Can someone who has run these engines on a 330 please let me know what they think of them and what kind of real life performance they get.

I am very surprised a 2006 boat was fitted with 'only' 225 engines. When I was searching for a Marlin last year all of the 2006 models were fitted with 250's and about half of the 2005 Marlins were fitted with 250's. Not sure why someone would opt for the 225's on a 330?

As far as performance goes, I cannot answer since I have not been on a 330. I assume Yamaha or Grady would list it on their websites.

I can't help but think a boat that weighs twice my 265s weight with only 50
more horses would be a bit slow for me. I think Grady offered them like that to help keep the price under a certain threshold. I'd want at least
F-250's on the 33.

I had a 330 with 225's (2003)...It was fine....In fact, my buddy has a 2006 with the 250's. The two boats cruise 1 MPH apart and his burns more fuel than mine did. Out of the hole there is only a slight difference but at the top end his goes 4-5 MPH faster. For normal use there is virtually no difference and I have extensive time on both set-ups.

These boats aren't meant to be rocket ships....The 330 with 225's will cruiose all day long, fully loaded, in average conditions at 29 MPH @ 4500 RPM. At that speed real world economy is 1.2 - 1.3 MPG. Push it up to 4800 (Fine for a 4 stroke) and it'll go 32 MPH at about 1.1 MPG.

I ran my 330 offshore plenty of times in plenty of conditions.....You ought to be able to get a great deal on that boat.....Unless top end is truly important to you I wouldn't worry about it...The 225's are bullet proof....

Had an '07 with f250's on it and was so,so. With 225's on it would a bit slower. From what i hear is that the 225's do not produce 225 hp but less, don't kow how true it is. But again, if price is right, a set of 300 e-tec's would look great on that boat, i would think same performance or close with f350's.

you can't put the f350's on that hull "legitimately". gw will void all open warranty and yamaha won't let their resellers do it. i got that straight from gw and a yamaha dealer. so don't consider that in your decision.

NEM, you still floating around or have you called it quits for the season?

We have a 2003 with 225's as well as a 2001 with 250 two strokes. Very little noticeable performance difference. Top end may be 2-3 mph slower but she cruises wonderfully at 26-27 kts. A full day of fishing (12-13) hours we will burn 140-150 gallons with the four strokes. We'll burn close to 180 gallons and 4 gallons of oil with the two strokes. The trip out of the bay and to the fishing grounds is approximately 70 miles. Those 225 motors are truly wonderful motors.

I know you can't put 350's on that hull, that is why i said about the e-tec 300's.

I have a 33 and repowered from 225s to 250s. It may get on plane a bit more quickly but other than that, no noticable difference.

If the deal is right and the hours are low I expect the 225s will be fine.
