Gas tank and Teleflex steering - 1999

I am in the process of buying a 20' 1999 Adventurer and am wondering owners experience with the telefelx steering cable =when it needs to be replaced and also if they have a gas smell under the deck when they pick up the hand holes by the gas tank and by the fuel gauge sender??

You never want to smell gas under the deck. The boat seems to be too new for tank or fuel line problems but something is wrong down there. GET A SURVEY!
