Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove tar ( Creosol) from cowling ? I tried WD 40 and tar remover got some off but there is still some on it. When getting gas motor was rubbing against piling?

Try WD-40 again. Saturate it and let it sit. I work around asphalt paving and WD-40 will take tack oil and asphalt off your vehicle, shoes, clothes. It should clean your cowl.

try Goof Off should do the trick

R3 rubber remover by Mothers. I use it for removing tar and rubber from track cars and found that it is great for bugs, tar, etc on boats and vehicles. Safe for clear coat finishes and all others. Best thing I've found.

As noted, one of the keys is to let it sit on their longer. Soak a rag (not dripping wet, though) and hold it in place for about 5 minutes.

I'd try gasoline if WD doesn't work.
