WIRE ROUTING FOR PULPIT MOUNTED SPOT LIGHT 330 EXPRESS

Hi,

due to wanting to mount my radar on the lower part of the hard top, I removed my motorized search light. At first I was going to put it on another part of the hard top but I want to mount it to the pulpit so I don't get any reflection. I will be using solely for marking the opening to the creek I wet slip on. It's not marked at all and very narrow.

I have an extra long wiring harness and I'd like to see pics if anyone here has mounted one on top of the pulpit on a 330 express. I'm sure I can easily figure out how to get the wire from the dash up to the anchor locker... it's where I exit the locker to go outside that i'd like to see. curious about what kind of fasteners people used for the harness- assuming you exited the anchor locker, ran the wire under the pulpit ,and drilled up through. .. maybe there's another way?

I'm all for Ready, Fire, Aim but if someone else has it figured out already, so much the better.

I'm talking about mounting the light on the topside of the pulpit.

Option 2 would be to get one with a wireless remote that I can steal power from the windlass for... even in that case, i'd still like to see how others got the wire out of the anchor locker to front of pulpit. I assume it's not hollow lol

Anchor goes through the pulpit, at least on newer models. That will make it easier to mount the light on top, in front of the anchor. Probably a dealer option, and one that you could find out exactly how it is done.

I’m definitely putting it on top.
 
I wouldn't do it. I have the radar on an arch with GPS and mast light integrated. I have the light on arch on front under the radar. Nice clean install. I think your asking for a bounch or potential issues:
- Wiiring issues (wet wires)
- Another spot for water to get in.
- Visibility issues, you got the light in the way.
- Water intrusion issues. The pulpit is wood cored. You risk water getting in.
- Possibly performance issues being closer to the water.

Just my 2 pennies.
 
We have our spot on the front pulpit. There is conduit mounted underneath the pulpit to allow the cable to be pulled through to the light.
Is that a factory conduit or was it added? your setup is exactly how I want mine.
 
added....it is just grey tubing. the starboard plate was added for the mounting. Works great
 
Starting to close the loop.

New plan. Turns out my 2004 ACR light had some issues... I know, very shocking lol. one bulb out which is ok but the up/down motor rusted up and seized. priced a new motor and it's like 400 bucks so I picked up a small ACR RCL-95 light. Instead of the pulpit, I may mount it to the starboard side deck right behind the nav light. plenty of access from anchor locker. The pulpit looks doable but where to drill through requires a slight leap of faith and I'm not into that.

Off center isn't perfectly ideal but this is for occasional use. Has anyone tried this? new light is 1/2 the size of the old one. search light.jpg
 
I'd be very hesitant to put it in that spot. I think you're going to get a lot of glare. But, it's easy enough to try it out by just setting it there (tape it down) and temporarily power it up with a jump pack. It may also cast some weird shadows to port. BUT...it will work just fine if you only point it off to starboard! :)

Who's the guy in the grady only going in circles?

x2 - In my experience, catching anything from the pulpit or bow rail will make the spotlight useless. I ended up putting a low profile bar on my hard top far enough back that the entire bow is shadowed. In order to get far enough back I had to put it on one side of my radar dome mount, but that has no effect on what it illuminates.
 
I've owned a remote spot and I'll never own another. Useless. trying to point that thing while your driving a narrow channel in the dark..trying to follow a marker with the light...
Get a flood on the pulpit and/or the hardtop and a rechargable handheld spot. You should have a handheld spot onboard anyways...
 
Have you looked at a slim low profile lightbar like the Lumitec Razor? I have both an ACR spot light and the razor on my hardtop. Each has its own function.
I love the Razor for a quick blast of forward light for marking a channel or quick reference.
I hardly use the ACR but it would invaluable for a man over board or rescue situation.
Both were installed on my 330 Express when I purchased it.
 
I installed this on my 228 and I'm pretty happy with it. I angle it so it's aimed more towards the water at idle speeds and comes more horizontal at cruise. No glare. Good viability. Doesn't interfere with the trailer tongue or anchor but the anchor does reduce the lighting so I'll take the anchor off the pulpit if I'm making a long run at night.
