    Everett / Seattle marine surveyor

Good luck, I tried finding one in the area to look at a Grady 232 I was wanting to buy and all five I spoke with said that they don’t work on boats less than 50 foot in length. At one point I thought I would conduct my own survey, so I started watching videos on the electronic instruments that...

Anyone have a bow rail for a 228 or know where I can get one?

After a considerable amount of work on the boat since buying it a few months ago, today I took the 228 out for the first time for a trial spin. Immediately I was struck by how much I hated the bow pulpit rail obscuring visibility of what was ahead of me. It wasn’t until I got home and was...

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

This is an amazing undertaking. Good for you. I studied the pictures and one thing caught my eye, there are no grab handles. I think I would want some vertical grab handles on the four corners. If someone is walking around the front and a wave tries to pitch him, it's far easier to stay in the...

    Kicker steering on 228 Seafarer?

By the way, I am following your pilot house thread with interest. If I suspend the belief that the Grady is the most thought out well designed fishing boat ever, and stand back, the design has a ridiculous number of obstructions that impede visibility and offer less than desirable element...

    Kicker steering on 228 Seafarer?

Agreed, the 232 is a very fine boat and this one was nice. I passed on it for two reasons. First and foremost was trailering. I don’t keep my boat at a marina and I haul it through thick Seattle trafficeach time I go fishing. The Gulfstream requires an oversized permit to be legal. That permit...

    Kicker steering on 228 Seafarer?

Thanks for the reply. When the salmon fishing gets hot here in the sound it can get pretty chaotic and boats get densely packed. I worry if the main as a rudder will let me maneuver quickly. Thinking now of the local Gulfstream 232 with twins that I passed on. Doh!

    Kicker steering on 228 Seafarer?

Today I mounted a used Yamaha T9.9 extra long shaft kicker onto the kicker bracket that was on the boat when I bought it. When I stepped back and took a look, I suddenly realized that there’s far too much distance between the front of the main 250 hp engine and the front of this kicker. A...

27 year old fuel tank is out! New tank design mod…

I tried using a winch on the front tied to the hardtop, and a cherry picker on the back, but the tank fought me something fierce to stay in its coffin. I finally said enough of this, and took a air chisel to the tank after removing one end of it. It was far easier to remove then, although I did...

Yamaha wire bundle won’t go in rigging tube

Yes, I have rope in the tube. I corrected the word cable to wire bundle in the body of the post because I meant wire bundle. Both ends of the engine to helm wire bundle have the same diameter connector so it’s a problem at either end. At the moment I am fit checking at the stern end. If it won’t...

Yamaha wire bundle won’t go in rigging tube

Wire bundles and control cables were gone when I got the boat. At the moment I am talking about the wire bundle from the engine to the helm. I don’t see a way to reduce the diameter of the plastic connector unless I am missing something.

Yamaha wire bundle won’t go in rigging tube

The plastic end of the Yamaha wire bundle is quite large in size, and it will not fit in the entrance to either rigging tube. The inboard most tube has a wire bundle wrapped in black corrugated sheath going from the battery to the helm, and the outboard most tube has the hydraulic steering...

1997 vintage 16-903 panel switch needed - where to find?

One of my switches is missing (bilge), and while I do plan to eventually upgrade the panel for the time I just want to replace the switch. According to Grady they are obsolete. Anyone found a drop in replacement that will work? Anyone have any old switches you will part with? Thanks!

Skunkboat thank you so much for your helpful replies! I am very grateful, and I know others will benefit too. What a great forum.

    OX66 charging second battery

I think I may be starting to understand what I had backwards in my head, thanks to your reply, and it has implications for what types of batteries go where. Please tell me if I have this straight. If I move from Off to position 1 when I use the boat, then battery 1 should not be a starting...
