    New(er) Freedom 205 vs Adventure 208

How cold is it when you fish? I came from a center console Triumph to the walk around GW with that big helm. Holy smokes is that helm warm. If you look at my profile picture you can see that yellow foul weather jacket that I'm wearing, that's what I wore on the center console. On my 228...

Learned some stuff in my 228

I regularly go out in 4@11 or 5@11 swells and it is fine. Though that is what windy.com says and my experience is that they over predict the height of the waves. Had a big argument with my buddy about wave height when we went out under the gate, windy said it was 7@9 but the buoy said 4.6@9...

Learned some stuff in my 228

As a new 228 owner and 1st time captain, all this stuff is fresh in my mind, I'm still learning but I've learned a lot. Not everyone will agree with me, one of the nicest and smartest guys here doesn't agree, but I trim the bow only with the engine. That's what Eric Sorensen (the grady tech...

Learned some stuff in my 228

Anthony (amamola on the forum) pinged me to see if I was still alive (I love this forum, really decent people here, if COVID weren't a thing we'd be having a giant party at my place). I've been busy with some other stuff, I do tractor / excavator work on the side, mostly for fun because I like...

Headed out tomorrow, who wants to come?

I've gotten so much help from this website, if you will drive to harbor in your car, take COVID seriously, wear a mask on the boat (yeah, I know they suck, but they work), then hell yes, lets go fish! It's all about timing, it's crappy out there now, next Monday/Tuesday (so a week away), look...

Headed out tomorrow, who wants to come?

I gotta say that it has been a steep learning curve with that 228, I'm a n00b, first boat where I'm in charge. But the more I run that boat, the more I love it. I came back in fast with my kid asleep in the cabin. It was pretty flat so I played with the trim, I know some here think this is...

Where to buy Hard Top Rocket Launcher 300 Marlin ?

I'm looking for the same thing for my 228. And 20 minutes in google finds this: https://www.wmwmarine.com/rodholders.html No prices so I'm guessing they are spendy. Seem to be made for Grady White, I got the sense this is the source for the hardtops.

    Doormat?

I can't believe it has taken me 6 months to think of this. Wouldn't it make sense to put a doormat on the deck where you get in? When I launch, the harbor asphalt is nasty, I track black foot prints into the boat. Ditto at home, I walk over dirt so I track dirt in. Seems like a carpet scrap...

Headed out tomorrow, who wants to come?

Didn't make up to Franklin Point, went a mile or so past Davenport. My net is busted so I lost 4 keeper ling cod at the surface. Bummer. Got a 26" ling in the boat. Had 24" ling and 2 rockies on the kayak stringer (I let them bleed out back there after bonking the), repositioned, forgot about...

Headed out tomorrow, who wants to come?

Santa Cruz to Franklin Point, looking for rockies and lings. I'd love a bunch of Gradys, it's late so maybe not but we ralleyed and we are going. 3feet at 11 seconds.

Serious now about joining the Grady crowd!

My (limited) experience is that you trim the engine all the way forward, it pushes the bow down (I can move the bow up or down at least 3 feet against the horizon by trimming the engine) and then it rides well. Some people here, that I like and respect, have tried to get me to do it with tabs...

Serious now about joining the Grady crowd!

I've got a 2020 Seafarer. I'm inexperienced, total noob, so listening to me - do that at your own risk. I *love* my boat. You have to learn how to drive it, I'm still learning, but I can drive it. I have not driven the earlier hulls. I can tell you that the SV2 hull will beat the crap out...

Got cuddy keys for my 228

I posted a while back and someone, I have your letter on my shelf, kindly sent me spare keys. Those did not work even though they seemed like the right keys. My dealer got me the right ones, they are sort of wedge shaped. I can post a picture if anyone cares. Just wanted to pass on that the...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

Like I said, above my pay grade. I went with what was suggested to me. I believe it is a compromise, if you get a narrow angle transducer you don't see as many fish but better detail on structure. If I go out any time soon I can take some screen shots of what I see. I can't see structure at...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

Above my pay grade. I fish in similar waters, shallow for halibut but 100-300 for rockies, lings, salmon (some day tuna). I just went with what the electronics people told me to buy. I have a TM165HW and I like it. I never use the Garmin I have, it's some sidevu thing that I haven't figured...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

http://mcvoy.com/lm/tmp/boat It's hard to see the starboard side height, the bottom of the bracket is about 1/2 inch up from the bottom of the boat. Let me know if these aren't close enough, I can do better, I need another set of hands and I need to bring the bow down (I use a tractor and...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

It just holds the bottom or can you see any fish at speed? I'm guessing only if they are whales or something?

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

Just the one to starboard, the Airmar like what wrxhoon has as well. The one at the bottom is a shallow water thing that sees sideways as well as down. It's for shallow water or finding baitballs that aren't at the surface. I rarely use it.

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't bother with the Garmin next to the plug. That's a "SideVu" thingy, it's mostly a shallow water thing. In theory, I can use it to find bait balls below the surface, in practice all I ever use is the Airmar. Given that wrxhoon and I have the same...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

I kind of wonder if it is the transducer, I think we have the same one, certainly the same brand. Let me go look up what I have... My model is TM185HW which is a 1kw (I think I misspoke and said it was 1.5KW). Claims to see to 500'.
