Trailer options for a GW 228 Seafarer

You want a 7000 lb trailer, I beam aluminum, preferably 6" I beams. Torsion V axles and crossmembers, the more the better ( stronger). Full Stainless steel brakes ( Kodiak or Deemax ) on both axles and electric over hydraulic actuator . Length has to be right for the boat, longer draw bar is...

    Bracket leaking bad

If your boat is on a trailer fill the bracket with water then you will be able to see where it leaks from. If no water comes out then it is the inspection plate on the top.

First Time Timing Belt Change F250

I never done one on a Yamaha but on car V6 quad cam engines you lock the inlet and exhaust cam gears in place ( special tool , or make your own) then you run the belt as per 2nd photo but leave the idler and tensioner last in that order. Someone that has done a Yamaha maybe able to advice an...

    Rub Rail for 282 Sailfish

If you can get hold of it I would replace it with the same dark navy original colour. The easiest way of doing it, remove the old one take the round part off, put the old rail on the top of the new one and mark the holes on the new rail and drill them out. Starting from the bow put the first...

If you can jump in the water plug the outlet with something so you can take the hose off then connect it to the live well first then install the tank and connect it to the outlet . If very little water comes in plug it from the inside until you are ready to connect the hose then take the plug...

NE Canyon run w/ gas bladder planning

If you only have the one tank, 92 gal (348 lt) then you need extra fuel . If I was you and intended to do that often I would install another tank . The original smaller tank is 56 gal ( 211 lt) . On my old 228 the main tank was at the rear of the deck next was the water tank and further forward...

    Not directly grady related

It depends on how old your phone is, if younger than 2 years replace the screen. I wouldn't bother with an older phone, if you don't want to spend the $700 buy a cheaper phone, you can buy new android phones for under $100.

Storing Batteries on Concrete? Yeah or Nay?

Temperature aside, you can keep your batteries on concrete or timber it will not make any difference . We don't have cold temperatures here so I don't know what effect very low temps will have on battery life.

    Twin 115s on 228?

The boat is well suited to a single , in your case go for the 250 ( max for your boat) and if you need a kicker get a 10-15 hp . I have a 250 on mine and I wouldn't even consider a kicker. Another leg to deal with when fighting a marlin. If you have the tweens propped correct she will never...

Transom Rebuild - The Saga Begins

I would like to think GW will come to the party or at the very least contribute to the repair. This is a manufacturing fault not normal wear and tear and a normal person would expect a very high end priced boat to last longer than 15 years. Good luck with it.

Wages are only keeping up with inflation or just above. The answer is very cheap money and plenty of it , you can have a housing loan here bellow 2%, when I bought my first property I was paying 9% and at one stage up to 18%. I don't know what will happen when interest rates go up to a more...

    GW in Au

Don , you can't buy much in Sydney under a million AU $ and if you want to live in a nice suburb within 20 miles from the city you need $2 mil+, these are Australian $ about 77 cents each in your money.

    GW in Au

In case you thought Grady's are expensive and getting more and more expensive, have a look at prices down under. I know the price is in AUD but at current exchange rates it works out US$ 184k . She is well fitted out but not even new and you still have to pay for a windlass! I guess that's the...

Are stainless steel brakes worth the extra $?

I haven't had any fail yet, of course depending on trailer use you need to change pads and make sure you use pads with S/S backing plates. I have to say that the S/S rotors wear out much quicker than steel but they will stop better as well. I keep my boat on the trailer always , never leave...
