    Livewell dial vs. switch

My 228 is 2013 model but I had an older 228 before , wired it as stated above. mr_mbuna If that's so then who ever wired it they bypassed the main switch, I don't know whey they would that. The variable dial you have should have a constant on, have you tried to turn it all they way clockwise or...

What's up with my gelcoat damaging so easily? Can I use the boat?

Not normal at all unless you hit something, like the trailer or other hard object. Was the boat living in the water permanently before you bought her?

    Livewell dial vs. switch

I have a variable pump switch on my 228, no need to have it on constantly with a few livies in the tank. I wired it myself after the main switch so you turn the main switch on to work and then you turn the dial, she goes on for 30 seconds and intervals vary for zero to 5 minutes . Have you...

    Towing

Probably irrelevant to you but I tow mine with a Landcruiser TTDiesel V8, no problem at all, of course a heavier truck will tow easier .

    Live well

If you could blow from both sides the flap could be warn out . I would test it with water before installation if I was you, it may save you doing it twice . These are pretty cheap why not replace with a new one if i doubt .

    Long distance trailering tips

I have used Kodiak S/S brakes on my trailers for the last 20 years, S/S rotors, S/S calipers ( the most important ) S/S brackets and pads with S/S backing plates. I install these brakes on every trailer I buy and never have any issues and hardly any maintenance besides changing pads and rotors...

Full width swim platform for a 2006 228

Most 228's have the full width swim platform, the idea of one side is to fit a kicker I would have thought. I'm sure Grady would be able to supply one . Don't let her see a post 2012 model 228 , they have an even wider and longer all aluminum platform that is part of the engine bracket. I'm sure...

    Is a single F350 enough for a Freedom 275?

Check it on GW website but I think the max hp for that boat is Tween 200's. If you don't mine having one engine she should be fine . Cruise at 30 mph around the 4000 rpm I would think and max should be close to 45 mph.

    228 Repower

You get what you pay for. You can get up to 200 hp in 4 cylinders, if you want more hp you have to go to a 6 cyl, hence the extra $$$.

    228 Repower

My friend you are correct on the 551 lb, I said 570lb because I estimated the oils. from Yamaha website . In Australia they are listed as 259 kg (570 lb) because they include oils. *Weight refers to shortest shaft length, and is measured without motor oil, gearcase oil and propeller (except...

    228 Repower

If you have a Merc dealer close by and you use the boat for fishing, running electronics , live well etc... consider the Merc she has a big alternator. My 250 Yam has a 70 amp alt and it is adequate. Easy to find out if you have water in the bracket, take the top plate off and you can see. Even...

    228 Repower

Not that light 527 lbs for the 20" shaft he needs 25" so about 540lbs. From my experience having a Merc 250 Opti in my old 228 I found Enertia prop to be the most suitable for my application, offshore fishing. I tried Mirage and 4 blade Trophy plus ( more lift)...

    Livewell Operating Question

You should have two sea cocks on your 228 if you have raw water washdown . The port side is the raw water and the starboard side the livewell. If it operates easy, with boat on trailer, push it all the way down then put the garden hose in the inlet, on the bottom starboard side in your tank...

    228 Repower

I would go for a Mercury V8 4.6lt 250 hp ideal for your boat and the lightest 250 4 stroke you can buy at 540 lb for a 25" shaft. If you want a 225 Merc V6 3.4 lt ond about 490 lb for a 25" shaft. Both engines come with 85 amp alternator. Not sure on the 225 but the 250 can come with DTS. Next...

2014 228 Cockpit lights flashing white and red

Sounds like the problem is in the switch in the light housing. I haven't had the light apart so I don't know if it is serviceable . More than likely you need a replacement . I have the same fitting on my 228 as well so far no problems.

2014 228 Cockpit lights flashing white and red

Mine has a mode that does exactly what you describe. Have you toughed the switch on the light? Did it just start doing that now? was it operating as you wanted it before? Can you operate the spreader lights from this light?

    New update

seasick, Normally with age and wear valve clearances get bigger so adjusting them wouldn't help the valve sealing better . I never had a Yamaha 4 stroke apart but I'm guessing it will have bucket and sim like most modern twin can engines and like you said very difficult for a none pro to do...

    New update

Russ, The knocking sound is a worry because if it's not related to the bad cylinder it could be a bearing knocking, if that's so it will eventually spin the big end , worse case put a rod through the block then it is new power head. The idea of testing compression with some oil in the crook...
