    Yamaha new outboard

I read the press releases and had a laugh at the new feature of a longer injector pulse. The pulse width determines how much gas is injected per compression stroke. So are they saying that the power is greater because they used more gas? Maybe I missed the point of that spec. In any case, the...

    Yamaha 2 stroke fuel pump

If you have multiple low pressure pumps and they may be original ( there is a way to tell by lookin at the color of the diaphragm material ) you should replace all of the pumps. I can't remember at this moment what the colors but look at a new pump and note the color of the diaphragm. It should...

Rewiring 263 Chase - what gauge?

Although there is info on color and wire size, the routing info is somewhat generic. It is not an engineering drawing of the wiring harnesses and doesn't tell you where conductors split off, how long the run is or if there is a splice for shared grounds or certain lights

    93 208 Repower - V6 or V8 Mercury

What is max HP for your hull. I think it may be 200 HP. Weight isn't the only concern. The extra thrust of a larger motor may put excessive stress on the transom. In addition, exceeding the rating may be a problem for your insurance company..

Rewiring 263 Chase - what gauge?

4 gauge sounds a pretty large to me. More on that later. Before you jump into the work, you probably want to do a reasonable estimate of actual loads. You can not add up the recommended fuse sizes for each component to get the running load. In every case, the running load will be lower than the...

    Trailer opinions please...

Very nice. One issue perhaps; I do not see a safety chain from the winch station to the bow eye. You shuld always have one just incase the winch clutch or strap lets go.

    arm rest refurb

There are lots of post about 'cleaning ' armrests. Finding replacements can be hard if impossible especially for older years. I have seen simple but fairly ugly fixes like putting socks over the rest. I thing the biggest bang for the buck assuming the fabric is not torn, is painting with a...

What year is this Yamaha Outboard?

Ky, Do you know if the date your dealer got is the manufactured date or the model year date. Often the two can be different since a 'this year' hull could be rigged with a 'Last year' motor. My 208 is a 2001 hull physically built in 2000 with a 1999 engine. This kind of confusion is part of the...

2000 Gulfstream with 2005 F225 Yamaha prop recommendation for fuel economy

How you use your boat is the biggest factor in doing a cost benefit analysis for new props. 4 blade props are typically less fuel efficient at higher speeds because that have more drag than 3 blades. If you troll a lot that will affect prop choice. Since you say you boat about 50 hours, I...

    Transom repair rebuild

Get a quote from Ocean Gate Yacht Basin Marina at 65 Bayview Ave, Use that as a benchmark to compare other estimates. They have a decent repair shop but like most boat related services, they can be expensive. The major issue I see is that without seeing the actual boat as well as not being able...

What year is this Yamaha Outboard?

Older motors have the year coded on the sticker. It is the letter next to the letters LTD. In your case that code is a C and that is the code for a 1991 model year motor based on how I understand it for am older motor. The letters can be reused in later years. C could also be a 2012 model . I...

What’s in your on board tool box?

My Boat US info:) I carry a few tools but not a ton; two screwdrivers, a strap wrench, a channel lock pliers and a test lamp. I pretty much stay inshore and nearshore. If I am dead in the water, I will call for help . I make make sure I have an extra anchor. A cutting pliers is handy not so much...

    Replacing fuel lines

The fact that the line is still flexible is good. If you don't smell gas in the tank coffin or bilge and there are no visible leaks, the lines are probably OK and not a critical item (now). I would pay extra attention to the line from the filter, and eventually primer bulb. Since much of that...

    Should I addTrim tabs

Tabs don't do anything when the boat is not moving obviously. I would be concerned with the way the boat sits with the motor weight removed from the deck area and shifted back to 4 feet off of the transom This is especially true if the new bracket is not a floatation style bracket. If the hull...
