    Gil bracket removal

I think you could reseal from the outside. Mine had multiple sets of motor holes. 2 were filled with silicone. Check that, drain and reseal after you paint. I would have kept mine if it would have worked with the new motor.

    Wire Color help

Why would they have them in the bilge? They wired from the battery forward possibly?

    Wire Color help

Hey all, I'm cleaning up the bilge as I just had to replace the washdown/livewell pump and hoses. I have a large wiring bundle in the bilge that's original. The bundle isn't being used and I'm trying to see if its worth keeping around. I'm assuming its for a few accessories I don't have...

    Gil bracket removal

My bolts were part of the bracket. I used the Marine Debond and unfortunately it is very pricey. I used it sparingly and still have some left over. There are other products, but this one is pretty safe around the boat.

    Gil bracket removal

I did this before installing a new bracket. If you start bending and twisting to get the bracket off I would say good luck on the reinstall. :) If you have a Gil bracket with the bolts mounted to the bracket you wouldnt want to damage them. Razor knife around the edge. Debond to help gum the...

Buffing the stickers marks off the boat

Nope--nothing wrong with a Harbor Freight model. You aren't doing it everyday. It's not a DA---just spins and you're not grinding. Spend the money on good pads.

Buffing the stickers marks off the boat

Agreed. You will need to wetsand to get it close. I did 800-1000-1500-compound-seal-wax.

Bennett to Lenco Tabs retro for Islander 268

I have Lencos on my little Mako for space consideration. Bennett would always be my first choice -- great company and RIP tabman. Thanks for the help on several projects over the years.

Finding someone to build a dang hard top is a pita

I picked up an original Grady top on Craigslist for $250. I'm only using the glass parts and I'll end up updating the look. I have never been a big fan of the aluminum work on the Grady's but will use the style as a base and improve on it. The areas where the welds cracked will be completely...

'93 Explorer - Helm seat resto

Started cleaning up a few things now that the bracket, motor and steering are done. Priced some new helm seats--no thanks. Disassembled the helm seats Soaked the hardware in vinegar Wet sanded the UV damaged plastic until smooth. Followed up with bleach to kill any missed growth. Reassembled...

    Repair and beefing up transom

These boats as most production boats didn't get the best glass work. Usually there are voids or the roving material had to go around a tight radius. Looks like that is a stringer knee and could really be cosmetic. It's hard to tell from the pic.

    Bilge pumps the same?

These boats should have 2 pumps aft with one switch higher than the other. It's sad they don't come that way. Rule was always the best until they outsourced. I really don't have a go to right now. Hoping a new company steps up.

    Seastar hydraulic steering

"Rebuilding" the helm is very easy. You are just replacing o-rings and a gasket. On Amazon you can get the same spec fluid as seastar. A gallon is around $40. You can bleed the system by yourself. Google bubble purge and make your own.

    Do you use Ethanol free?

Ethanol leads to water in a tank if it's stored for long periods of time. I use ethanol only if I'm going to use all. I trailer and have access to non-ethanol fuel. It's usually around the price of Diesel.

    Sleeping onboard

Kids sleep in the cabin and the wife and I out on the deck. If the wife and I go out we usually still use the deck unless it's cold out. 2 nights tops.

full size swim platfor on Offshore w/ Grady Bracket?

I took one off on mine and it was mounted over the Grady bracket. Still have it with the brackets. It was a dealer option. I went with an integrated one for the new 300zuke I just mounted. Grady bracket wasn't going to provide enough support for the added weight/hp.

    Replacing GW Switches

I would just replace the entire panel. I have slowly changed the terrible original wiring out. The price to reproduce the panel isn't that bad. It's really just the switches that add up. Make sure you get a good quality switch. There is some low cost stuff on eBay that appears to be a knock...
