It should be mounted inside the gunnels. Pull the back supports off and lay it back into the cockpit for the ride home, or anytime you trailer to reduce stress on it.

Have you tried changing out the fluid and bleeding it?? My steering fluid was nasty when I went to bleed it. Ran all new fluid through the system and seemed to help. My old helm actually gave way and replaced it with a new one last year, much smoother now.

I bought this kit. Then added flares and handheld VHF and some other essentials.

I have one, along with a hand held VHF, flares, water, whistle, in a ditch bag that sits at my feet at the helm. It's on a 228 Grady. Looking into a Garmin InReach Mini to go along with the above gear. Hope to never have to use any of it, but very glad I have it if the need arises.

The HS60 looks to be an option also. Replacing my Point-1 with it, eliminates the Precision-9 mounted down below somewhere. The pole mount is removed and it mounts flat to the hardtop inplace of the Point-1.
