    Updating stereo on boat 228

I ordered my system yesterday. Based on measurements I think 7.7 JL or Fusion coax speakers will fit in the hole for the inspection plates . I got the standard grills to protect the cones from puncture. I bought the JLs and I bought ,two 6.5 JLs Vex style speakers and will add their surface...

    Updating stereo on boat 228

I am curious as to how those speakers mounted to the hard top?

    Updating stereo on boat 228

The Fusion head piece has a class D amp built in at 70 watts a channel . I want it to interface with my other Garmin stuff and I want a durable marine system. My current alpine system is a marine Alpine and it's going string. It's just dated tech with no blue tooth or wifi . I like the...

    Towing Grady with Jeep

I am a long haul trailerer or is it trailer tower ? Either way on average I make 2 trips to Florida a year towing from NC. It's close to a thousand miles to my favorite local boat ramp in Key Largo . Dennis hit the nail on the head. Towing is easy. Stopping is the hard part. I think your...

    Updating stereo on boat 228

Do the speakers interfere with seating and folks legs at all? I kind of like where you installed these. I think the JL 7.7s will fit perfectly in the inspection plate holes . I like that install you did there.

    Updating stereo on boat 228

The other thing I was thinking of is go with the classic grill style especially I install speakers in the inspection port area. The cool looking grills seem to me lend themselves for things puncturing the woofer cone like a rod butt, gaff butt or some other object on the boat. What say you?

    Updating stereo on boat 228

Ok, after you guys or y'all's input here is my thinking. Ditch the wake tower idea and get either 6.5 or the 7.7 JL round coax speakers and use the inspection plate holes to mount the speakers and keep my current boxed Polyplanars under the helm..Ditch the sub but maybe add a 4 channel amp to...

    How does beam affect ride?

Here on the east coast of Florida if we have 6 or 7 foot seas it's blowing 20-25 knots and there is a small craft advisory posted. I have been in some long swells generated by a hurricane say 1,000 miles away but typically here once you get above 3-4 feet there is often wind and thus wind...

    How does beam affect ride?

There is some really good information here. The feel of a center console will be different than a walk around . A 22 foot Fisherman Grady center console is built on the exact same hull as the Seafarer and Freedom 225. The center console will feel perhaps better riding because the helm is...

    Updating stereo on boat 228

Thanks Dennis. I currently have an Alpine Marine deck I bought new in 2009 and it's paired with 4 box speakers from Polyplanar. There are two in the cabin and two in the cockpit attached to the bulkhead between the cockpit and cabin. I am little adverse about drilling and cutting big holes in...

    Updating stereo on boat 228

Hey Guys, I am going update my audio system on my 228. I am going with a Fusion head unit and likely JL speakers like you see on wake boats attached to the hardtop tubes. I am thinking of adding a single 10 inch sub for enriched low frequency not for a sambar party . . I just don't know...

The only better boat than a Grady is a bigger Grady and I'm going bigger

If I am ever in a position to move up it will be a Marlin or Express 305 or maybe a 330. Congrats on your new boat order. I will say this I have fished on all the above boats before . Yes they are nicer and you can go faster in bigger seas than a 228. They are more sea worthy and therefore...

    Water Smells In Freshwater Tank:

We use our freshwater system mainly to rinse off from snorkeling and such or when we are trolling it's nice to cool off with a quick spray to the face and head and neck. I treat it like I treat my camper water holding tank. Winterize it with rv antifreeze and in the spring flush it all out with...

    Fog outboard yes/no

I live in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. It gets cold here. I may be in the wrong or just ignorant in regards to these matters. This is my 15th winter and I have yet to fog any of my outboard motors. I have had F150,F25 ,3.3 liter F250 and now 4.2 F250. Every spring they start right up...

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

Perhaps you are correct. I have seen the sea go from relatively calm to a tempest when a severe thunderstorm blow across Key Largo with 60 knot straight line winds. I was in my old Grady 192 dual console when it happened. NOAA weather radio said the storm was heading from the Everglades to...

I am curious as to what the trailer looks like in full side view and from the axles back to the Stern. how does the boat fit the entire trailer ? Many then guage by that the larger issue driving the tongue failure .The bunks should be carrying most of the load . I suspect you know this. The...
