    Help me Decide!

Wahoo all the way. That is one sweet boat and exactly what I was looking for before I bought my Sailfish. When I couldn't find one, I stepped up significantly to the Sea V2 Sailfish. Figured if I couldn't have something rare and special, I wanted the more desireable Sea V2 hull. While you...

    Steering Hose Replacement

If your 232 has the outboards on a bracket, DO NOT run lines from the helm all the way to the engines. Put bulkhead fittings in the transom. That way if the lines outside of the boat ever get damaged, all you have to replace are one or two short pieces.

    winter storage/ cover suggestions

Tim, How far down the sides does that 30' x 40' tarp cover? I am going to be picking one of similar size up for my 252. Do you think the 40' length would be enough to full cover from the bow pulpit to the end of the bracket (no engines on there now to cover up)? Thanks.

Fuel Monitoring System: Northstar vs Floscan

The Northstar F210 is the old Navman. It's a great little unit. Had one on my old 204 for 3 or 4 years and it never gave me a lick of trouble and was deadly accurate (after calibration). If you had a 4-stroke or DFI, I would recommend the Floscan as I believe it will read a lesser fuel...

Trailering - sway. The tail wags the dog

He's right. Too little tongue weight is probably the no. 1 cause of trailer sway.

Four stroke for 1989 25' sailfish

Had 225s on my '93 Sailfish. The boat took the weight just fine and I was not in violation of an local or federal laws. I did check w/ my insurance co. before purchasing though. Only after I received confirmation that they would insure the boat, did I move forward with the purchase. Be...

    sea cast

Wood doesn't rot just because it gets old. The floor in my 1981 Mako is made of plywood and it is rock solid and completely dry. I know that for a fact as I had to cut the aft portion of the deck out to do the transom. The floor was done right, the transom wasn't....that's the difference...

    sea cast

The only con I have heard about Coosa was that in can "gas out" (or something like that) and cause bubbles in the glass that you lay over it. This info. came from a very reputable builder on the eastern shore of MD that told me they have seen this first hand. That being said, I've talked to...

    sea cast

Seems to me like that would be more work than using some sort of high density foam core that already has two flat surfaces. You would have to take steps to ensure that the core was of equal thickness and would most likely have some grinding/sanding to do in order to smooth it out before...

    sea cast

My research has been somewhat limited, but I haven't been able to find hardly anyone that has used it. So, lack of info. is playing a factor for me. I described above what I feel would need to be done in order to properly prep the inner and outer skins to achieve the best bond possible...

    sea cast

The only way I would use that stuff is if I were to cut off either the inner or out transom skin and completely remove the old wood core. Without doing so, you run the risk of having the bonding surfaces not properly prepped and the strength of the bond can be compromised. By removing one of...

Restoring my newly acquired 1985 240

Glassing in an open transom and installing an ouboard bracket will run you at least $5000 to have it done properly. But the cost is highly dependent on the level of finishing, the type and composition of the bracket and the condition of the current transom. But being the boat is a...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Got the motor out again this weekend to get it warmed up so I could take some compression readings. After letting it idle for 5 to 10 minutes, I hooked up my gauge and started pulling numbers. 1 - 123 psi 2 - 125 3 - 124 4 - 127 5 - 130 6 - 130 Those readings looked real good to me...

    Gulfstream bracket holes?

Sounds like someone took off the spray plates and never plugged the holes. Remove the inspection plates and thoroughly rinse the inside of the bracket to get rid of any leftover saltwater. I would also angle the bow up so any remaining water inside the bracket can run towards the back and...

    Aluminum Bracket Paint

Make sure you properly clean the aluminum before you paint it. I would go at it with a fairly aggressive flap wheel on an angle grinder. Then you need to etch the surface to remove impurities, prime with an appropriate primer and topcoat.
