    Seastar hydraulic steering

I agree, two people makes the job go better for sure. Also, it is recommended to turn the wheel no slower than the rate of 2 seconds per revolution. If you hesitantly "creep" the wheel, it may not clear the air from the high spots in the lines. The captured, drained fluid is definitely reusable...

    Seastar hydraulic steering

Hey skunk...you don't need to switch bottles of fluid during the bleeding. Just use a quart jug and cut the bottom out so the guy turning the wheel can add as needed. When you think you have all the air out, turn the wheel to full lock either port or starboard and force the wheel to continue. If...

    Anchor rode issue

Lay that splice out on a block of wood and hammer it with a heavy wooden mallet or a hard rubber hammer. A plastic dead-blow hammer will work too. Hammer all up and down the splice, turning it a bit and hammering some more. Don't be bashful, hit it smartly. It will soften the splice and if you...

Hahaha....Dennis, that's too funny. Kinda reminds me of my old English teachers comments about some of my writing.

Hahaha...Not offended at all trapper. Actually I haven't been on the site for awhile. I have been busy building a shed and outdoor kitchen area before it gets hot down here. As far as helping the anchor crew goes, actually a buddy sent me that picture and I just get a kick out of working them...

PLB and EPIRB Battery Replacement Whine

I agree about the out of sight, ridiculous charges levied just because they figure they are dealing with a bunch of bumpkins. At times it almost meets the criteria for fraud. If a person is competent at maintenance then there is no reason not to do some of the refurbishing required on some of...

NHAngler wrote......."Beyond this, I travel as light as I can only inviting slender super models with no gear on my boat. OK, so I did say invite but does not mean they ever join me. Usually a 1-2 guys with some gear. Still, even with 3 in the boat it is fine. Wished I had a 150 when 1 of the...

    SeaStar Fluid

A previous boat I owned was a "wanderer" at slow speeds also. Something that really helped was to deploy one trim tab fully down. That drag would cause the bow to pull to that side, then a steering correction to offset that pull and hold the bow in the desired direction helped immensely. This...

    Gluing Grady Helm seat

My theory is.....if the original metal broke under the stress of normal use then glue will not be a suitable solution since the best glues are far, far from being as strong as uncompromised metal from which the original part was formed. I would remove all the soft items and take the parts to a...

    Grady 180 sportsman help

On a previous boat that I owned, I had porpoising problems. A guy that owned the same boat and had worked at rigging boats at a large marina/dealer for years before retirement ask me what bracket hole the engine was mounted at. The guy I had bought it from had raised the engine as high as it...

    SeaStar Fluid

I agree with KY Grady that if you haven't serviced the system in several years, flushing the system a bit will help keep things working in good order. If you do bleed/flush the system and read the Seastar how-to literature, somewhere in there I remember it saying not to be too "tentative" about...

    RTIC Cooler Sale

I remember that line Jim. That was hilarious. I got a little carried away expounding on my beliefs about imports. That is just my opinion and not intended to infer that other opinions are not just as valid. This is about RTIC coolers after all. Here's to the power of ice! The difference...

    RTIC Cooler Sale

What really rubs me is the fact that China can make very good quality products. They launch satellites for christs sake, and you don't do that stuff with inferior products and workmanship, yet they send ship loads of pure junk over here because people will buy it thinking they are getting some...

    no start/fuel issue

The ASV is spring loaded toward the tank. When fuel flows it compresses the spring and lifts the ball off its seat. Any flow toward the tank will be blocked since the spring will return the ball to it's seat along with the added force of any back-flowing pressure.

    no start/fuel issue

You will notice that the 90 degree fitting is a two piece unit. The piece with the barb on it going into your hose and screwed into the tank fitting is the anti-siphon valve. It has a spring loaded check ball in it. You can replace it with an open, straight through barb fitting and still be...

    RTIC Cooler Sale

I try to avoid that China junk also. Many times I get fooled. I wound up with a gun safe made in china because of a bait and switch deal. Really p*sses me off. I have one of the extreme coolers. Not a Yeti but similar. I feel they are overkill for my normal use. A regular cooler keeps ice fine...

    no start/fuel issue

Sounds like your anti siphon valve may be stuck closed. If you still have them in the system this would be a good time to eliminate them. That would be one thing less to go wrong.

    SeaStar Fluid

It's very easy to rig up a bottle with a fitting and hose from your local hardware store that works. For fluid you can buy it a lot cheaper at your local general aviation airfield repair facility. That's where I bought this. It's the proper fluid specified by Seastar with the exception that it...

Topping Up Bennett Trim Tab Oil

On my pump the filler cap is right beside the pump after you remove the clear plastic cover. It is a small round black cap about the size of a nickel. It just lifts out, no threads. I can see yours in the picture right below the red wire.
