Windshield Wiper Doesn't Work - Switch or Motor?

Took my volt meter to the boat to test the circuit. Initially the wiper did not work. But after jamming my test leads into the connectors a few times, viola, the wiper started to work! Can't say I fixed anything, but it does show the wiper motor is OK. We'll see how long it continues to...

    NJ fishing reports

I was at the Garden State North reef yesterday and was on top of all sorts of black sea bass. Caught 6 keepers and probably tossed back another 12 shorts. Also caught two small blue fish and one tiny fluke, which were tossed back as well. Good to be out on the ocean again after the last week...

Windshield Wiper Doesn't Work - Switch or Motor?

Legend, that's my next step. Any idea which of the wires to use when I connect the volt meter? I could just try every combination. Seasick, the rocker switch does not change the wiper speed. Lower position turns on both port and starboard wipers. Upper position turns on Starboard only.

Windshield Wiper Doesn't Work - Switch or Motor?

How do I find out if the problem with my wiper is the switch or the wiper motor? The port windshield wiper has stopped working on my 2008 282 Sailfish. It was working fine a couple of months agao. Then, ove the last month it started working only intermittantly. Then it started to only work...

    Windshield wiper performance

I bought replacement blades for my 2008 282 Sailfish earlier this summer from West Marine. These are the complete arm, not just the rubber blade. They worked well for about a month. But now the driver's side blade gaps in the middle and does not clear the spray off the entire windshield...

I found the Performance Data from Yamaha for a 282 Sailfish with twin four stroke 250s. Looks like you were right, I should be able to run at 4000 RPM which is about 31 MPH and get 1.85 MPG. Of course these numbers are obtained in "optimum conditions", which I assume mean a smooth body of...

This is going to take a full tank of gas and a week or two to figure out. Thanks for your advice and I'll get back to you once I have more data. In the mean time, good fishing!

I have Raymarine electronics and just found the "page" where it shows distance travelled and fuel usage. However, I have to wait for my next fueling to reset the page so it can calculate MPG. I can get up to 30 MPH, probably around 4800 RPM, but the fuel consumption starts climbing fast as...

Skunk, that's a nce trip! I was at the North Ridge on Friday for a few hours and caught one spanish mackerel. Tracked my gas usage and it looks like I'm getting 1.5mpg when crusing at 3600 - 3800 rpm, which is about 21knots.

Thanks for the information, and the advice! I'm running twin Yamaha 250s, 4 strokes (2008). I haven't nailed down my exact mileage, but it is in 1 to 2 mpg range, and probably less than 2. I am working my way eastward already, havng gone to the inshore reefs, and then out to the Barnegat...

I'm curious, obviously you carry enough fuel to run to the Canyon. How much of your 250 gallon capacity do you use on the trip? I have 207 gallons on my Sailfish, and am skeptical if I can make the run and still make it back. I run out of Barnegat Light.

Skunk, Looks like a nice day of fishing! Good pic and video. How far offshore were you? I fish out of Barnegat Inlet and curious how long it would take to motor into your area.

    SeaStar Helm Repair 2008 282

Thanks for all of the input. It turns out my leak was coming from the fill tube. I finally put a clamp around the hose where it attachs to the fitting that gets screwed in to the helm fill hole. I also punctured the fill bottle to let it breath as the fluid filled the helm. These two changes...

    SeaStar Helm Repair 2008 282

Hookup and Seasick, thanks for the replies. Any idea if I can replace the shaft seal without opening up the pump? If I have to open the pump I will, but obviously would prefer not to. Also, do I need to remove the pump from the dash to replace the shaft seal, or can I replace the seal with...

    SeaStar Helm Repair 2008 282

I have been having some slack in my steering lately, so have added fuid to the system. However, the slack has not disappeared. And the slack s about 1/2 - 3/4 of a turn of the wheel. So today I started to bleed the system (following SeaStar's procedure). I was on the bleeder screws and my...

    2003 282 Windlass Question

This won't help you much, but posting just to provide another data point. i have a 2008 282 Sailfish and the anchor drops by itself every time. Maybe GW changed the anchors, rollers or mounting setup between the years?

What Size Stern Anchor for Sandbar?

Thanks for all of the input. So the package I saw at West Marine sounds like it will work. I am concerned about bangs and dings from a loose anchor, so may look into a sand spike. However, when anchoring on a sand bar, we are not always on a fully exposed sandbar, but simply a shallow area...

What Size Stern Anchor for Sandbar?

I have a Sailfish 282 which is equipped with a windlass, which is great and makes dropping anchor a breeze. But when I drop next to a sandbar, the boat often blows all over the place. So looking to add a simple stern anchor to keep the boat in one place. Primary anchor will still be the bow...
