I have the Pooderbuilt on my 228 and it is great. I put a G10 plate under my swim platform for added strength, and I have no issues at all. I did not use the bracket as I do not tow with my outboard on which is a Yamaha 9.9 HT.

Yours looks the same as my 1999 228. Here is a picture to confirm. Good luck with the removal, curious how it goes, I have been thinking about doing it as well.

I tow one regularly with a F150 eco boost and it has no issues.

I put a Pooderbuilt swim step motor mount on my 228. I moved the ladder to the starboard side and put the kicker mount on the port side. I am very happy I did, super easy and no listing.

I found them on ebay, just search grady white screw covers and plenty of options come up.

I have a XL shaft 9.9T on my 228 and it is perfect. It is not the lightest motor but it will push you up a swell if your main dies. I have mine mounted on the swim platform and it sits well.

For what its worth, I have a 741xs on my seafarer 228 and could not be happier. Good Luck with your decision.
