Garmin Autopilot on GW 257 Advance

Hello SkunkBoat. Sorry you had so much difficulty. Although I have encountered a number of different configurations, our 2002 Islander and two other GWs I installed on had copper tubing from the helm to just inside the transom, then hoses to the steering cylinder. These simply required...

Garmin Autopilot on GW 257 Advance

Why did you need to take hydraulic hoses to the engines, unless you didn’t have hydraulic steering to start? Having done a good number of these installations, plus replacements and servicing, I strongly endorse those three little high-pressure ball valves for pump isolation. Without them the...

Islander 268 live well/fish box plumbing

The seacocks on our 270 were about six inches either side of the centerline, about two feet forward of the transom, with reach rods to the aft side of the battery shelf under the aft cockpit seat. One for raw water and one for livewell.

    Auto pilot on 228

For anyone planning your own A/P installation, I strongly recommend adding high-pressure ball valves in the three lines, close to the A/P pump. This allows isolation and removal of the pump if needed, without draining the entire system - and rendering it inoperable. Some of the installation...

How do you deal with smokers?

THIS ^^^ Just the same as any rule at home or on the boat. I don't let people smoke in my home, or on the lanai, so why would I let them smoke on the boat? Of course, you could bring a water toy and tow them 100-ft back while they smoke. That is "outside", but the anywhere inside the...

    Depth finder not working

On the chart screen? What fishfinder info do you expect to see on the chart screen? Did you try switching to a sonar screen? Perhaps the sonar is 'paused'. Of course, if the unit was left on for an extended period after the boat was hauled, you could have thermal damage to the transducer...

Debating what else I want to do to "get her ready"

Russ, I did most of the oil and filter changes on our F150s, but had to have the boat hauled to have the lower unit lube changed, so did water pumps when needed. I always asked about the zincs and the mechanics always said no need, never seen them wasted, etc. Anyway, before we moved from...

Well, that was a burst bubble....

THIS ^^^^ I know you want it to look perfect, but that is just far too much $$$ for appearance. IMHO.

    Good Cup Holders

I've been using the clamp on versions for years. The ones noted above are the add-ons to use with the clamp on version. https://www.therobocup.com/collections/shop-retail/products/robocup-navy?variant=37113251594

2007 Grady Express 300 thru hull questions

Having done a number of hose clamps with one arm, working blind, I have found that it is easier to use a properly sized nut driver than a wrench. You are coming straight on, so gain the extra length of the tool, and it is much easier to keep it on the top of the fitting.

    2004 Islander - Setup thread

Are you referring to the cost of documentation? Initial documentation is $133, but annual renewal is $26. You may still be required to have state registration, but you not display state numbers. You may have to pay state or local property taxes.

    2004 Islander - Setup thread

Boat names are not registered on vessel's using state registration. Names aren't even required on boats, but it does make it a lot easier when calling the marina for a reservation... :-) Boats that are federally documented with the USCG do require names, and there are specifications as to...

    Yamaha repower questions

We purchased out 2002 Islander 270 new in March 2002 with a single 250HP OX66. Repowered in Oct 2005 to twin F150s, and we were very happy with them. If doing it now, the new F200s would be my choice and I think they are plenty of power for that boat. We had a WOT speed with a fishing load of...
