1000 hr service completed this off season, havent asked the techs But...is there any break in period for the engine? Does the new belt the tech put on need some kind of work in hrs? Or can I just go....come the spring?!

I don't think so. I have had 1000 hour twice, tech's never said anything about break in needed.

Lucky is right. Break-in is needed for irregularities of metal to metal surfaces to wear down to a more uniform surface. Surface finishes on machines parts are deliberately created to let mating parts polish one another. Also machined parts have an acceptable +/- tolerance. Sometimes the max tolerance of one part fitting into a minimum tolerance of another part can make for a dangerously tight fit. Gentle break in allows them to wear down without causing them to inadvertently weld or seize together from thermal expansion.
When it comes to timing belts, it makes zero difference. Run it!

got my invoice back from the marina that did the service. I think I got a "fair (lol)" invoice for the 1000 service, $3400 parts + labor. ill upload a picture of the invoice as well.

If I'm looking at the invoice correctly... it appears as though they charged you 8.66 hours of labor with a total of $1,861.90 for just the labor itself? That's $215 an hour for labor, which to me seems quite high, though maybe that's what other places in your area are charging as well? On top of that, I noticed the tensioner assembly they charged you $650 for it, when you can buy it online from a Yamaha dealer for less than $400. At the end of the day, it's your boat and your money, of which if you feel it was a fair deal then that's all that matters. I personally am a firm proponent of learning how to do most of these "expensive" items on your own, which can help you learn how to fix things on your boat by keeping up on the general maintenance as well as it ultimately saves you quite a bit of money in the long run in doing so. Either way, water under the bridge at this point, good luck with the boat and enjoy her.

I'd still take it easy for the first 20H or so just to let everything settle while your paying attention to things. Should be no issue in 98% of the cases but better to be conservative after a service. Depends what they did re charges. The dealers tend to stick it to you on parts and some can be excessive on labor. Gonna be honest though, that is a bit more than a full service on the twins and complete boat, ac, generator, water, treat fuel and other winterization for me. They changed the plugs, oil, lower oil, t-stats, water separators this year. They rotate a few things every 3 years so it varies a bit year to year. Like you said, it's done. Enjoy.

I have the invoice ex owner paid for the same 1000 hr maintenance for my twin 2011 F300 and it was 5000$ for both outboards and thats a expensive Yamaha dealership.
But the cost included also 12 spark plugs, oil filters, etc. I just paid 900$ in parts for normal 100 hour maintenance.
Parts where about 10% cheaper, and labour was 125$/hour

If i pull the trigger for new outboards it would be Suzuki again, because of cost for new engines and maintenance parts and because they never gave me troubles while most Yamahas i had did, from total loss to small annoyances.

I did compare parts prices on Sims and it doesn’t seem like there is too much of a variance in price. Hourly rate for mechanics is kinda high. Some of the other places near me are $185/195 but I’ve also been going to this mechanic for 12+ years and 2 boats. They’ve always taken care of me.
If I brought the boat elsewhere i would only be saving roughly $400ish…I’m comfortable with the price of convenience and past experience I guess. Call me crazy?!

Nope, not crazy as i have to admit that i do the same as i prefer to deal with the known high cost but high quality work than choosing a cheaper one who may deliver a shitty work.
Yes i forgot that you have MSRP stuff in US, fortunately we don't have that in Europe so competition lower the cost in a lot of goods.

Ian, I am guessing that there is more to your invoice than you showed us. The list of service we see does not include any mention of VST service. There should be a small screen changed out and after the VST there is a small in-line fuel filter that should be changed in a 1000 hour service. I will say though, that was on my Yamaha 250 and different models may require different care, but check your list and see if they got into that.
