Hey guys I just got my grandfathers 82 overnighter and I’m trying to restore it the helm deck is the original wood and carpet, and is all wet and soggy. is this an easy fix on my own or is it better to have a professional do the fix ?

It’s not so complicated. You could do it with time, resources and work ethic. Maybe some YouTube vids and research before going too deep. If you hire a boatyard it won’t be cheap. Might find someone on Craigslist cheaper but you wouldn’t want a rando half assing the job
Thank you! Iv been trying to find videos but can’t. I’ll expose the deck amd see what in detail needs to be done as long as it isn’t so complicated

West marine sells a cheap fiberglass manual
Can use a dremel tool or circular saw to cut out the old, but I’d be careful and wear protective gear. Best bet would be epoxy and Gelcoat over a replacement floor. Also don’t destroy the old before making a cardboard template for the new.
you probably want to replace the gas tank(s) while you’re in there and make sure stringers and transom are solid.
