Have been posting this over on The Hull Truth.. going to update here .. strap in.. here is where we start ...

Boat info: Picked up an 87' Grady 24' CC from Jax today. Towed her back to Miami. Round trip: 3AM-2:30 PM including gas stops, etc. Price was very aggressive and worth the trailer, so didn't inspect her too much when we picked her up. Hooked, and back to Miami.

First, the facts:
- 24' CC
- Closed Transom w/ Bracket - rigged for twins. no power currently on boat.
- Leaning Post
- T Top - Soft
- No electronics
- 2002 Trailer w/ 5 new tires, new coupler, new disc brakes. Older winch.

Now, the opinions, and the "muddy" facts:
- Got her to the shop and walked her. Prev. owner stated 2 soft spots on hatches from scuba tanks. Found 3 in total - 1 storage hatch, 2 over fuel tank areas. Will get storage hatch recored, read on to learn about fuel discovery.
- Transom appears to be pretty damn solid. Will do more exploring of this ASAP next week.
- Removed leaning post - 10 million types of fasteners that dont hold well are holding this post into the soft fuel tank cover that needs removal. Leaning post is junk - will replace.
- Large fuel access hatch comes off - prev owner stated tank had been replaced. This is where I need some help. By my calcs, there is a 250 gallon main tank installed (should be 100 gal). Looks like stringers had been cut out to put tank in, and then boards laid down under the hatch to provide support? Would make sense as to why its soft. Then - opened the aux 50 gallon hatch - that tank is cut and not in use. So, plan is to remove console and T Top ASAP, get the tank out of there, and see what we are working with. I do NOT need 300 gal of fuel in that boat, nor am I sure why anyone would. Any thoughts? I am already thinking of getting new tank set here locally at Welding World, cutting back a little of the chopped stringers, and reglassing them in. It is 2 horizonal stringers. I can pick up some Coosa for the hatches and stringers and should not be a major job. Just very, very weird to me that someone would do that?

To Do List (Immediate):
- Fuel Tank situation
- Stringers that seem to have been previously modified
- New leaning post
- New T Top (hard top?)
- Remove console, don't mind the size of the original, recore it and design new console based on existing
- Rewire boat
- Recore access hatches
- Paint hull (boat will be trailered). Outside: Is Awlgrip the way to go? Spray? Should we polish the inside of the boat or roll awlgrip inside? Thoughts?
- Find some power. We're on a budget - twin 150's. Might go 2 stroke older to get on the water this season and upgrade next yr. Opinions? OX66?

To Do (Long Term):
- New transom bracket
- Redo rub rail
- 4 strokes
- Redo live well set up
- Reconfigure fresh water toilet / washdown
- Transom / tuna door ?
- Sound system

Monday is going to focus on transom. Will remove the bracket for inspection of both bracket, and transom structure. Previous owner claims transom is solid. What do you guys think about the installation of this bracket based on these photos? It doesn't look to good to me. I think we will be purchasing the Coosa for replacement but hopefully I am wrong. Also, what are peoples thoughts on adding a tuna/dive door to the enclosed transom out to the bracket? Does that seem like a crazy idea? Feels like access to the boat from the water will be tough for the ladies, kids, animals, novices, or even more experienced in dive gear even once they climb onto a bracket. I put up some transom specific photo's below

Update:
- bracket off. bracket was filled with water.
- transom was actually sealed up quite well - globs of 5200 all inside every penetration.
- transom, happily, seems solid. It was replaced within the last few years. Will be pilot holing to confirm such.
- material purchased for stringer repair by tank, new hatches, and reglassing center console
- new twin bracket ordered and new leaning post ordered
- decided to remove the toilet, re-route the fresh water wash more towards the back of the boat
- i am going to cut out the kinda worthless fish station at the back, build a bench at the same height as the livewell boxes there that folds up so i can have complete bilge access

In the next few days will work on getting fuel tank out of there and start removing all the old wiring, etc.

pictures are uploading so I will edit with photo's soon.

anyone have the stringer/tank layout of this boat?

Amazing that someone was running this thing. Tanks are out. Console/T-Top is off. Some weird, ratchet things going on with these tanks - these look like combined 250 gallons, not 150 gallons as supposed to be.
Core sampling stringers and transom tomorrow to determine depth and breadth of replacement needed. Plywood under home depot mat does not seem OEM for tanks. Does anyone know the original stringer layout? I am trying to see if anything has been modified.

Materials are already ready to go to start fixing up console, hatches, etc.

Grady sent me this diagram but its backwards. The front coffin has space for a 95 gallon and the rear coffin when the stringers restored has space for a 55 gallon. The 95 is forward, partially under the console. The 55 is back behind leaning post area.

however, based on hull#, this is diagram Grady gave me. Weird. You can clearly see the stringer was cut to place massive tank in back of boat.

the tanks installed incorrectly by PO, total 250 gallons of fuel.

new hatches .. recore

Drove to corelite address .. its POLYUMAC store .. foam/composites / etc

finagled warehouse guy to give me 5 sheets 2nd quality for $550. 3/4 board 4x8 28 lb density brand new (Im a good negotiator) .. off brand coosa/corelite

went to the boatyards and got a few labors to help speed process along with removing stringers and transom

Need to decide resin. Most boat yards down here using poly.

want to get the cap back on in 2 weeks

1.5 thick transom ok? Or take it to 2.25? Not sure yet

We will mold in a nice bench or something here that is low enough to stand on for fishing and that opens up for clear bilge access still working on refining the idea

sold the old top on Facebook market place and picked up this hard top someone paid 8k for (with receipts) for $1800 after some negotiation.. w/ outrigger bases, LEDs etc

its 77x 144. Were going to trim it from the forward back to 96. (Soft top now is 84). Reglass it and repaint the bottom the same as the TBD Alwgrip on the hull and fresh white on top
