I have my eye on a 1988 192 that is selling for $18,900 Canadian. It has a 200 HP Yahama from 2001. Am I a fool to even consider such an old boat? I have yet to see it in person, but from what I can see on the dealers site it seems like it is in great condition and has been well taken care of. So just wondering if its even worth a drive out to have a closer look.

I'd be cautious as it has had the transom reinforced, a sign of a failing transom. This is the one near Kingston, right?

Hi, yes it is the one near Kingston. And you are correct, the transom has a metal plate which the dealer informed me about when I spoke to her. I was wondering if this was a sign of a problem or just an added "extra."

Thanks for the advice. Given its age one would expect some repairs. The question, of course, is whether or not they were done properly. Anyway, I would not hand over any cash until a proper survey was done. But I'm just trying to get a sense of if it is even worth considering.

Just heard back from the dealer. Indicates that "from what I understood the transom was added as a precaution to support the engine." Not sure what to make of that. Red flag?

Absolutely. Unless good with glass and have the time it might be good to pass on it. Usually you open her up and it just goes from there.
